Finished Dimensions
– 19” width x 72” length (Large) / 14” width x 68” length (Medium) / 11” width x 60” length (Small)
Gauge
– 21 sts and 27 rows = 4 inches in lace stitch after blocking
Yarn
– Cascade Heritage Sock (I used the Camel colorway) or any fingering weight yarn that blocks well.
You will need approximately:- 1000 yards for the large size
- 720 yards for the medium size
- 500 yards for the small size
Needles and Notions
Needles – US size 6 or 4mm needles
Notions – Blocking pins and wires
Abbreviations
Abbreviations:
- k – knit
- p – purl
- CO – Cast On
- YO – yarn over
- k2tog – knit 2 together
- ssk – slip, slip, knit the two slipped stitches together
- RS – Right side
- WS – Wrong side
- sts – stitches
Lace Grid Stitch Pattern
(The square brackets contain repeatable sets of stitches)
Rows 1, 3 and 5 (RS) – K6, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk; [k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk] to the last 6 sts; k6
Rows 2, 4 and 6 (WS) – k3, p3, k5; [p2, k5] to the last 6 sts; p3, k3
Rows 7 and 11 (RS) – knit all sts
Rows 8 and 10 (WS) – k3, p to last 3 sts, k3
Row 9 (RS) – k3; [k2tog, yo] to last 4 sts; k4
Row 12 (WS) – knit all sts
Instructions for Knitting
CO 101 (Large) / 73 (Medium) / 59 (Small) sts loosely, using the long-tail method.
Knit 4 rows.
Now start working in the Lace Grid stitch pattern. Knit rows 1 to 12 of the pattern 39 / 37 / 32 times. Then knit rows 1 to 5 one more time, ending with a right side row (row 5 is a RS row).
Knit 4 rows.
Loosely bind off all stitches knitwise (you will be binding off on a WS row).
Wet block the shawl to desired measurements. Weave in ends.
