You’ll Need:

600g of violet Mondial Polaris yarn (70% merino wool, 30% acryl; 100m/50g);

Straight knitting needles 4.5 and 5;

8 buttons;

Tapestry needle.

Used Patterns:

Double Rib:

Cast on half of the needed stitches with contrast yarn;

1st row: working yarn * 1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over*; repeat from * to *;

2nd row: * yarn over as knit stitch, slip 1 stitch as purl without knitting it, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *;

3rd and all the following rows: * 1 knit stitch, slip 1 purl, yarn in front of work; repeat from * to *, take off the contrast yarn.

2 x 1 Rib:

*2 knit stitches, 1 purl*.

Pattern of Cables:

The quantity of stitches is multiple of 8:

1st, 3rd, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th rows: * 1 purl, 6 knit stitches, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *;

2nd and all the even rows: purl;

5th row: * 1 purl, cross 6 stitches to the right (leave 3 stitches on the auxiliary needle behind work, 3 knit stitches, 3 knit stitches from the auxiliary needle), 1 purl*; repeat from * to *;

15th row: repeat the pattern from the 5th row.

Stitches Control:

Pattern of cables: 22 stitches x 27 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions:

Front and Yoke of Back:

Make as one-piece cloth, start with the left front. Cast on 72 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 and make 6 rows of double rib. Change to knitting needles 5 and make 5 edge stitches with double rib, the rest stitches – with pattern of cables. Make shorten rows in the following way:

9th row: knit 28 stitches, turn, knit 28 stitches;

11th row: knit 46 stitches, turn, knit 46 stitches;

13th row: knit 60 stitches, turn, knit 60 stitches;

15th row: knit 72 stitches, turn, knit 72 stitches.

Repeat shorten rows every 20 rows. At 170 cm height, make 4 rows of double rib and bind off the stitches with kitchener stitch.

Back:

Cast on 79 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 and make 6 rows of double rib. Change to knitting needles 5 and work with 2 x 1 rib, making 3 edge stitches from both sides with double rib. At 30 cm height, bind off all the stitches.

Sleeves:

Cast on 43 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 and make 6 rows of double rib. Change to knitting needles 5 and work with 2 x 1 rib, increasing 14 x 1 stitch in every 6th row from both sides. In 42 cm, bind off 1 x 4 stitches from both sides, then decrease 3 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row. In 44 cm, bind off the rest stitches.

Assembly:

Sew upper edge of back to the central part of the stripe made of the pattern of cables. Sew up the sleeves and make the seams. Cross both loose edges of the stripe of cables and sew the edges to the sides of the back. Sew 4 buttons along the side seams to the stripe of cables.
