For the garter stitch in the round always alternate knit round and purl round.
Rounds for Garter Stitch
Round 1: Purl all stitches around.
Round 2: Knit all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1-2 8 more times or until you reach a gusset section.
Gusset Section
Make the gusset section for the right hand on the 1st needle and for the left hand on the 4th needle. Otherwise, pay attention that the “jog” or seam was always on the sides of the palm.
For the right thumbhole, leave the first 6 stitches. Take waste yarn and k6, slip all 6 knit stitches back to the left needle, pick up working yarn and knit all 32 stitches around.
Knit 26 stitches, drop working yarn and join the waste yarn, k6, slip last 6 stitches back to the left needle, pick up working yarn and k6.
Continue knitting garter stitch pattern in round for about 9 cm or until the mitten reaches the tip of your little finger. Make sure knit round was the last one. After that start decreasing rounds.

Finishing the Mitten
Cut the yarn leaving a 10-15 cm tail, thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the mitten’s top.
Carefully remove the scrap yarn and pick up 5 stitches up and 6 stitches down. Pick up 2 stitches from the right side and 1 stitch from the left side for the right mitten, or 2 stitches from the left side and 1 stitch from the right side for the left mitten. In total, pick up 3(4) stitches around the gap. If you see holes, try to twist some stitches or pick up a couple more, but then don’t forget to get rid of them, otherwise the thumb body will look too loose. To get rid of extra stitches k2tog in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Attach yarn and knit about 10 rounds or until it reaches the tip of your thumb.
