Pattern Notes

Make every 8th V using B, or randomly if you prefer, regardless of what round it is. Use the “knit on” cast on method throughout this project. There are many times that stitches are cast on in the middle of a row or the end of a row.
The sweater begins with a row of mitered V’s at the hem. The next row of V’s is picked up and knit along the top edges of the previous row. The sweater is worked in the round up to the underarms, then divided. Triangles are worked to fill in the spaces along the armhole and neck edges.

Sweater Instructions

Tier 1

Make 10 (12, 14) Basic Mitered Vs. They are each separate at this point. Lay them out on edge with the cast on edges pointed down.

Tier 2

Cast on 6 sts, pick up and knit 6 sts along the 2nd edge of one V, cast on 1 st (center), pick up and k 6 sts along the 1st edge of next V, cast on 6 sts – 25 sts.
Work remainder of this V as for Basic Mitered V. Continue to work 9 (11, 13) more Vs around.
Continue to add additional Tiers of “V”s until sweater measures 14 (15¾, 17½)”.

Divide for Front and Back Shape Armholes

To leave sides open for Armholes, at right edge work ½ V as follows:
Cast on 6 sts, pick up 6 sts, cast on 1 st – 13 sts.
Row 1 (WS): P1, k to end.
Row 2: K to last 2 sts, k2tog – 1 st dec’d.
Rep last 2 rows, 6 more times – 6 sts rem.
Bind off all sts firmly.
Work 4 (5, 6) Mitered Vs across.
At left edge work ½ V as follows:
Cast on 1 st, pick up 6 sts, cast on 6 sts – 1 st dec’d.
Row 1 (WS): Knit to last st, p1.
Row 2: Ssk, k to end – 1 st dec’d.
Rep last 2 rows, 6 more times- 6 sts rem.
Bind off all sts firmly.

Next Tier

Return to right edge and work 5 (6, 7) Mitered V’s across.
Repeat these last 2 Tiers until Armholes measure 8½ (8½, 10)”.

Back

Work as for Front.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
At top edge, anchor front to back at tips of Vs, leaving 3 (4, 5) Vs open for neck.
