Knitting a Stylish Violet Sweater

You’ll Need:

600g of violet Mondial Polaris yarn (70% merino wool, 30% acryl; 100m/50g);

Straight knitting needles 4.5 mm and 5 mm;

8 buttons;

Tapestry needle.

Used Patterns:

Double Rib:

Cast on half of the needed quantity of stitches with contrast yarn:

1^st row: working yarn, * 1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over*; repeat from * to *;

2^nd row: * yarn over as knit stitch, slip 1 purl without knitting it, in front of work*; repeat from * to *;

3^rd and all subsequent rows: * 1 knit stitch, slip 1 purl, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *, remove the contrast yarn in the ready-made detail.

2 x 1 Rib:

2 knit stitches, 1 purl by turn;

Cabled Pattern:

(The quantity of stitches must be a multiple of 8):

1^st, 3^rd, 7^th, 9^th, 11^th, 13^th rows: * 1 purl, 6 knit stitches, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *;

2^nd and all even rows: purl;

5^th row: * 1 purl, cross 6 stitches to the right (leave 3 stitches on the auxiliary needle behind work, 3 knit stitches and 3 knit stitches from the auxiliary needle), 1 purl*; repeat from * to *;

15^th row: repeat the pattern from the 5^th row.

Stitches Control:

Cabled pattern: 22 stitches x 27 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions:

Front and Yoke of Back:

Make as one-piece work, starting from the left front. Cast on 72 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 mm and make 6 rows of double rib. Transition to knitting needles 5 mm and create an edging of 5 stitches from both sides with double rib, while the remaining stitches are knitted with the cabled pattern.

Make shortened rows as follows:

9^th row: knit 28 stitches, turn, knit 28 stitches;

11^th row: knit 46 stitches, turn, knit 46 stitches;

13^th row: knit 60 stitches, turn, knit 60 stitches;

15^th row: knit 72 stitches, turn, knit 72 stitches.

Repeat the shortened rows every 20 rows. At 170 cm height, make 4 rows of double rib and bind off the stitches using Kitchener’s stitch.

Back:

Cast on 79 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 mm and make 6 rows of double rib. Transition to knitting needles 5 mm and work with 2 x 1 rib, making an edging of 3 stitches from both sides with double rib. At 30 cm height, bind off all stitches.

Sleeves:

Cast on 43 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 mm and make 6 rows of double rib. Transition to knitting needles 5 mm and work with 2 x 1 rib, increasing by 1 stitch on every 6^th row, a total of 14 times. At 42 cm, bind off 1 x 4 stitches from both sides and decrease 3 x 1 stitch in every 2^nd row. At 44 cm, bind off the remaining stitches.

Assembly:

Sew the upper edge of the back to the middle part of the stripe made with the cabled pattern. Sew up the sleeves and complete sleeve seams. Cross both free ends of the stripe and sew the edges to the sides of the back. Finally, sew on 4 buttons.
