How to Knit a Beautiful Beige Sweater with Cable and Rib Patterns


You’ll Need:
600g of beige Mondial Merino Sprint yarn (50% wool, 50% acryl; 190m/100g).
Straight knitting needles 4 and 4.5.
3 buttons.

Double Rib:
Cast on half of the needed quantity of stitches with contrast yarn:
1st row: with working yarn, *1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over*; repeat from * to *;
2nd row: *yarn over as knit stitch, slip 1 stitch as purl without knitting, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *;
3rd and last row: *1 knit stitch, slip 1 stitch as purl, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *, take off the contrast yarn.
2 x 2 Rib:
Pattern with Cables:
(The quantity of stitches is multiple of 11 + 5):
1st, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 15th, 17th rows: *2 purls, 1 knit stitch, 2 purls, 6 knit stitches*; repeat from * to *, followed by 2 purls, 1 knit stitch, 2 purls;
2nd and all the even rows: work according to the ornament;
7th and 19th rows: *7 purls, 1 knit stitch, 2 purls, cross 6 stitches to the left (leave 3 stitches on the auxiliary needle in front of work, knit 3 stitches, then knit 3 stitches from the auxiliary needle)*; repeat from * to *, followed by 2 purls, 1 knit stitch, 2 purls.
Repeat the pattern from the 3rd row.
Stitches Control:
Pattern with cables: 22 stitches x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions:
Back:
Cast on 82 stitches with knitting needles 4 and make 4 rows with double rib, then work with 2 x 2 rib. In 6 cm, switch to knitting needles 4.5 and work with pattern with cables. In 50 cm from the set-up row, bind off 1 x 2 stitches from both sides for chamfers and then decrease 2 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row after the first 2 stitches and before the last 2 stitches. In 68 cm from the set-up row, bind off the remaining 74 stitches, 20 stitches of which are for each shoulder.
Right Front:
Cast on 24 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 and work with the pattern with cables, starting the row with 2 purls and 6 knit stitches. Increase 1 x 7 stitches in every row after the first 2 stitches from the right side and 18 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row, including the increased stitches in the pattern with cables. In 25 cm from the set-up row, knit 10 cm without increases, and in 35 cm from the set-up row, decrease 25 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row after the first 2 stitches from the right side for the neck-hole. In 42 cm from the set-up row, bind off 1 x 2 stitches for arm-hole chamfer from the left side and then decrease 2 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row from the left side. In 60 cm from the set-up row, bind off the remaining 20 stitches.
Left Front:
Make in symmetry to the right front.
Sleeves:
Cast on 58 stitches with knitting needles 4 and make 4 rows with double rib, then work with 2 x 2 rib. In 2 cm from the set-up row, switch to knitting needles 4.5 and work with pattern with cables. In 6 cm from the set-up row, bind off 1 x 2 stitches from both sides for sleeve caps and then decrease 17 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row. In 21 cm from the set-up row, bind off the remaining 20 stitches.
Assembly:
Make shoulder seams. For front placket and neck-hole, cast on 44 stitches along the back neck-hole and work with 2 x 2 rib. Increase 5 x 6 stitches and 6 x 5 stitches in every 2nd row along the neck-hole of each front part. Then, increase 1 x 24 stitches along the set-up row of each half of the front, including the increased stitches in the 2 x 2 rib pattern. In 8 cm, make 4 rows with double rib and bind off all stitches. At 5 cm height from the beginning of the placket, make 3 button-holes on the central 10 cm of the right front with 5 cm interval. Sew up the sleeves and make sleeve and side seams. Finally, sew the buttons.
