Whether you’re an experienced crocheter or a confident beginner, follow the materials list and round-by-round instructions below to make your own slithery friend.

Materials Needed

To work you will need:

  • Plush yarn (Dolce, Himalaya Dolphin Baby, or similar plush yarn)
  • Hook No: 4
  • Filling (holofiber or synthetic fluff)
  • Eyes: 18 mm (safety eyes recommended)
  • Long needle for shaping the face
  • Strong threads to match the body for tightening (cotton recommended)

Abbreviations

MR - Magic ring
Sc - Single crochet
Inc - Increase
Dec - Decrease
Hdc - Half double crochet

Crocheting the Snake

Follow the rounds below to build the head and beginning of the body. Make sure to stuff firmly where noted and adjust stuffing as you go to keep an even shape.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR
Rnd 2: 6 sc
Rnd 3: sc, inc*3 (9)
Rnd 4-53: 9 sc (50 rnds)
Rnd 54: 9 inc (18)
Rnd 55: 2 sc, inc*6 (24)
Rnd 56: 3 sc, inc*6 (30)
Rnd 57-59: 30 sc
Rnd 60: 11 sc, 4 hdc in one column with one vertex, 6 sc, 4 hdc in one column with one vertex, 11 sc
Rnd 61: 9 sc, 6 dec, 9 sc (24)
Rnd 62-66: 24 sc (5 rnds)

Between rounds 63 and 64 insert eyes next to each other (the pattern uses 18 mm eyes) at a distance of 4 sc.

Rnd 67: 2 sc, dec*6 (18)
Rnd 68: sc, dec*6 (12)
Rnd 69: 6 dec

Cut the thread, tighten the hole and fasten. Hide the tip of the thread inside the head. Shape the muzzle and make a tightening using a long needle and strong thread to create the defined snout.

Finishing Tips

  • Stuff the head and body as you go for even shaping and to avoid lumps.
  • Place safety eyes between rounds 63 and 64 at 4 sc distance as noted; use washers for safety with toys for children.
  • Adjust the overall length by changing the number of repeats in rounds 4–53 if you want a shorter or longer snake.
  • Weave in all ends securely and hide thread tails inside the body.

Enjoy your cuddly crochet amigurumi plush snake — it makes a charming handmade gift or a cozy addition to your amigurumi collection.
