The first thing you need to do is measure your dog's neck.

Note: The stitch counts are in parenthesis, but please remember, if you adjusted the pattern for your dog's neck size, your count will also need to be adjusted.
Ch1 does not count as a stitch for Rows 1–4.
Ch4 at the beginning of rows 5–13 counts as dc, ch1.

Neck Band
R: 1 - Ch 37, Maximo and Rosie's Neck is 12 inches, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (36 sc)
R: 2-3 - 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn (36 sc)
R: 4 - 1 sc in each sc, join to 1st sc to form a circle. (36 sc)
Main Body
R: 5 - Ch 4, Counts as 1st dc, ch1, *dc in the next sc, ch1*, Repeat from * to * around, join to the 2nd ch of the beginning ch 4. (36 dc, 36 ch1 = 72 sts)
R: 6 - Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch1), dc, ch 1 in the 1st ch 1 space, *dc, ch1 in the next ch1 space*, Repeat from * to * around, join to the 2nd ch of the beginning ch 4. (36 dc, 36 ch1= 72 sts)
R: 7 - Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch1), dc, ch 1 in the 1st ch 1 space, *dc, ch1 in the next ch1 space*, Repeat from * to * 6 times, dc, ch1, dc, ch1 in the next ch1 to form the 1st corner of the poncho. Repeat * to * 16 times for the back of the poncho.

Finishing Touches
R: 8 – Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch1), dc, ch 1 in the 1st ch 1 space, 1dc, ch1 in each ch1 space, dc, ch1, dc,ch1 in the 3 corners.
R: 9 – Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch1), dc, ch 1 in the 1st ch 1 space, 1dc, ch1 in each ch1 space, dc, ch1, dc,ch1 in the front and back corners. Continue to repeat if more length is needed.
R: 10 - Slst across the front of the poncho, to the 1st corner, ch4, dc, ch1 in that 1st corner.

R: 15 - sc evenly around the hem of the poncho.
R: 16 - 1 sc in each sc around the hem of the poncho, tie off and weave in ends.
Ties and Neck Trim
Ch 25, attach yarn to the right corner of the top of the poncho with a sc, sc around the neck of the poncho, then ch 25, tie off, and tie a knot securely in the end of each tie.
