Crochet Jack Frost Toy Tutorial

Materials
- worsted weight yarn, small amounts of (I used):
- A = flesh
- B = blue
- C = lilac
- D = light green
- E = white
- small beads for eyes
- small trims for hat bauble, belt buckle, and buttons, or embroider on
- crochet hook size 3.75mm (F)
- small amount of fiber fill
Notes
- Always chain 1 at the beginning of single crochet rows/rounds. This does NOT count as the first stitch.
- Join at the end of each round.
- Decrease: pull up a loop in each of the next two stitches, yarn over, draw through all 3 loops.
- Double Crochet Decrease: leaving the last loop of each stitch on the hook, double crochet in two stitches, yarn over, draw through all 3 loops.
Body
With A, chain 2, 6 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook.
Round 2: 2 single crochet in each stitch around. (12)
Round 3: (single crochet in 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in next) around. (16)
Rounds 4-9: single crochet around.
Round 10: (decrease, single crochet in next) around to last 2 stitches. Decrease. Stuff head firmly. (10)
Round 11: single crochet around, finishing off color A.
Round 12: Join B at the back in back loops only. Working in back loops only, 2 single crochet in each stitch around.
Rounds 13-20: single crochet around.
Round 21: In back loops, single crochet around.
Round 22: single crochet around.
Round 23: (decrease, single crochet in next stitch) around. Decrease. (13) Stuff firmly.
Round 24: Decrease around, single crochet in last. (7) Leaving a long end, finish off. Weave tail through stitches of round 24, pull tightly to close and fasten securely.
Arms
(Make 2)
Leave about a 6" tail to start; this will attach the arm to the body.
With B, chain 13. Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and across. Turn. (12)
Row 2-5: single crochet across. Turn. Leaving a 12" tail, finish off.
Join A in row ends at the end without tails. 5 single crochet evenly across.
Row 2-4: single crochet across, finish off, leaving a 6" tail for closing. Fold arm in half lengthwise. Using matching color tails, stitch along the length. With the end tail of A, weave in and out of stitches of the hand, pull to close, secure.
Sew arms in place at sides at approx. round 13 with the beginning tail.
Legs
(Make 2)
With B, chain 21. Repeat Rows 1-5 of arms.
Row 6: single crochet across. Leaving a 12" end, finish off. Fold leg in half lengthwise, using the long tail, stitch together.
For foot: Join C at the bottom of the leg in back.
Round 7: 7 single crochet around, join.
Round 2: single crochet around.
Row 3: single crochet in 3 stitches, turn.
Rows 4 & 5: single crochet in 3 stitches, turn.
Row 6: Chain 2, double crochet decrease the next 2 stitches together. Chain 1, finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Fold toe lengthwise and sew 2 stitches along. Then tack the remainder to the open part of the foot. Set aside.
Coat Trim
With the head toward you, join B to the left of front center in the free loops of round 20. Chain 2. 2 half double crochet in the next stitch, (half double crochet in the next 2 stitches, 2 half double crochet in the next) around. Half double crochet in last stitch. DO NOT JOIN, TURN. (28)
Row 2: Chain 2. (2 double crochet in 1 stitch, double crochet in 2) around. Half double crochet in last stitch. Turn. (37)
Row 3: single crochet across, finish off. Attach legs to the bottom of the body.
Wrist Cuffs
(Make 2)
With C, chain 10. Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and across. (9) Finish off. Attach to each arm where sleeve and hand join.
Boot Cuffs
(Make 2)
With C, chain 15. Double crochet in 4th chain from hook and across. (13) Finish off.
Attach to leg at the top of the boot.
Belt
With C, chain 25. Half double crochet in 3rd chain from hook and across. (24) Finish off. Stitch in place at waist.
Scarf
With D, chain 50. Half double crochet in 3rd chain from hook and across, finish off. (49)
Work fringe on both ends, tie in a knot around the neck.
Hat
With D, chain 18, join to form a ring. Single crochet in each stitch around, join.
Round 2: (single crochet in 7 stitches, decrease) twice. (16)
Round 3: single crochet around.
Round 4: (single crochet in 6 stitches, decrease) twice. (14)
Round 5: (single crochet in 5 stitches, decrease) twice. (12)
Rounds 6-10: single crochet around, decreasing 1 stitch each round. (7 stitches at the end of round 10)
Rounds 11-13: single crochet around. Finish off at the end of round 13, leaving a 6" tail. Weave in and out of stitches of round 13, pull tightly to close and fasten securely.
For hair: make a fringe around the bottom of the hat, leaving the face area clear.
With C, chain 25. Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and across. Finish off, sew in place at the bottom of the hat, covering the fringe joining.
Final Touches
Glue trims to the front of the coat and to the belt buckle, sew the bauble to the end of the hat.
Sew beads to the face for eyes.
