Instructions

Ch 3.

RND 1: In 3rd ch from hook, work (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 2, in same st work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 2, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Pull beg tail to close middle hole.

RND 2: Sl st into next ch-2 sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) ch 1, *in next ch-2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) ch 1, repeat from * twice more, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.

RND 3: Sl st into next ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1, *in ea ch-1 sp work 3 dc, ch 1, in corner ch-2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) ch 1, repeat from * 2 times, in next ch-2 sp work 3 dc, ch 1, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.

RND 4: Repeat Rnd. 3.

RND 5: Repeat Rnd. 3.

RND 6: Sl st to corner, in corner work (ch 1, 3 sc), *sc in next 3 sts, sc in ch-1 sp, repeat from * 3 times, sc in next 3 sts, in corner work (3 sc), repeat around square, join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off. (19 sc on each side and 3 in each corner).

Pattern Note

The pattern calls for Rnd. 7 only to be worked in BLO. If you like the ridged effect, you may work the remaining rounds in BL also.

RND 7: Working this Rnd. in BLO, join Color B to middle st of any corner, (ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *1 dc in each of next 21 sts, in middle st of corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), repeat from * 2 times, 1 dc in each of next 21 sts, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (25 dc on each side)

RND 8: Sl st to ch-2 corner sp, in corner sp work (ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *1 dc in each of next 25 sts, in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), repeat from * 2 times, 1 dc in each of next 25 sts, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (29 dc on each side)

RND 9: Sl st to ch-2 corner sp, in corner sp work (ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *1 dc in each of next 29 sts, in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), repeat from * 2 times, 1 dc in each of next 29 sts, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (33 dc on each side)

RND 10: Sl st to ch-2 corner sp, in corner sp work (ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *1 dc in each of next 33 sts, in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), repeat from * 2 times, 1 dc in each of next 33 sts, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (37 dc on each side)

Pattern Note

At this point measure your square. Depending on the weight of your yarn and/or the tightness of your stitches, you may need to add Rnd. 11 to reach 12”. Use either hdc or dc – according to your measurements. Pattern is written as hdc.

RND 11: Sl st to ch-2 corner sp, in corner sp work (ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 hdc), *1 hdc in each of next 37 sts, in corner work (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc), repeat from * 2 times, 1 hdc in each of next 37 sts, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (41 hdc on each side)
