This is a basic basket with a nice crochet pattern for the side. If you want you can also use just single crochet stitches, half double crochet stitches, double crochet stitches but here I will also put two (2) diagrams for a basic lace effect. The first one will be on the base of 4 stitches and the second one will have the base of 8 stitches.
The bottom of the basket – base is a crochet circle with a base count of 8 single crochet stitches. I was reading about it and found out that to have a flat circle the base should be done in increases of eight (8) stitches – so 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, ...
The stitches used in this pattern are:
- sl st – slip stitch
- ch – chain stitch
- sc – single crochet stitch
- inc – single crochet increase stitch (make 2 in 1)
- dc – double crochet stich
Materials and supplies needed for the project:
- crochet hook (pick your size regarding the yarn)
- yarn (cotton)
- scissors
- needle
- water / sugar mixture to block / harden the basket
Pattern for the base:
- magic ring
- R1: 8sc – 8st
- R2: 8inc – 16st
- R3: {sc, inc} x8 – 24st

Pattern – diagram for the side of the basket with a base pattern count of 8 stitches:
The handle in the yellow crochet basket is made into the part where the 3 double crochet stitches are and it is joined on the other side into the same count of stitches. If you are using your own pattern for the side you have to count the stitches to make it even.
Pattern for the handle:
- 40sc, join with a slip stitch to the basket
- skip 1 stitch and in the next one
- ch3, join with a slip stitch to the basket
- double crochet stitches in each of the chain of the handle
- join with a slip stitch to the base
