Knitting Instructions for a Mohair Sweater with Pockets

You’ll Need:

550g of charry (# 4) Lana Grossa Bombilo yarn (30% mohair, 20% merino, 40% polyacryl, 10% polyamide; 65m/50g).

Straight knitting needles 8.

Long circular knitting needles 8.

6 buttons.

Stitches Control:

9.5 sts x 14 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 60 sts and make 4 cm of rib for placket.

Then, work with stockinette stitch. In 56 cm from the beginning of work, bind off 1 x 2 sts from both sides for arm-holes, then bind off 4 x 1 st in every 4th row = 48 sts. In 22 cm from the beginning of arm-holes, bind off 1 x 5 sts from both sides for shoulder chamfer, then bind off 2 x 5 sts in every 2nd row. At the same time with the 1st decrease, bind off the central 14 sts for neck-hole and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 2 sts in every 2nd row.

Left Front

Cast on 29 sts and make 4 cm of rib for placket. Then, work with stockinette stitch. In 54 cm from the beginning of work, bind off 1 x 1 st from left side for neck-hole chamfer, then bind off 6 x 1 st in every 4th row and 1 x 1 st in the next 6th row. At the same time, make arm-hole and shoulder chamfer from the right side in the same way as for back.

Right Front

Make left front.

Sleeves

Cast on 29 sts and make 4 cm of rib for placket. Then, work with stockinette stitch. For sleeve chamfer, increase 1 x 1 st in the 9th row from both sides, then bind off 5 x 1 st in every 6th and 8th rows by turn = 41 sts. In 39 cm from the beginning of work, bind off 1 x 3 sts, then bind off 2 x 2 sts, 5 x 1 st, and 2 x 2 sts in every 2nd row. In 13 cm from the beginning of sleeve cap, bind off the rest 9 sts.

Pockets

Make 2. Cast on 16 sts and make 12 cm of stockinette stitch, then make 4 cm of rib for placket. Bind off all sts.

Assembly

Sew pockets to the middle of front at 8 cm distance from lower edge. Make shoulder seams. For placket, cast on 80 sts with a circular knitting needle and work with rib on all sts, then, in 2 cm make 6 button-holes on the right front. Sew buttons.
