The quantity of sts is multiple 4 + 2.

1st row (RS): 2 purls, * 2 knit sts, 2 purls*; repeat from * to *;

2nd row: 2 knit sts, * 2 purls, 2 knit sts*; repeat from * to *;

3rd row: 2 purls, * knit2tog, but do not slip off needle, then insert right-hand needle between these 2 sts and knit the 1st st again, slipping both sts off needle tog, 2 purls*; repeat from * to *;

4th row: as the 2nd row.

Repeat 1st-4th rows.
