Special Stitches

dc2tog = double crochet 2 together - To make a dc2tog, work 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts but leave the last loop of each dc on the hook (3 loops on hook), yo and through all 3 loops.

hdc4tog = half double crochet 4 together - To make a hdc4tog, yo, insert the hook into the next st, yo, pull up a loop, *yo, insert the hook into the same st, yo, pull up a loop, repeat from * two more times; yo and through all 9 loops.

Note: hdc4tog is also known as the ball stitch.

The quantity of sts is a multiple of 17 + 2 chain sts increase.

Crochet Rows Instructions

1st Row (RS)

Dc into the 4th ch from the hook (counts as dc2tog), [dc2tog over the next 2 ch] twice, *[ch 1, work hdc4tog into the next ch] 5 times, ch 1 **[dc2tog over the next 2 ch] 6 times; repeat from * ending the last repeat at ** when 6 ch remain, [dc2tog over the next 2 ch] 3 times, turn;

2nd Row

Ch 1, sc into the first st and into each st and each ch sp to the end excluding tch, turn;

3rd Row

Ch 3, sk the first st, dc into the next st (counts as dc2tog), [dc2tog over the next 2 sts] twice, *[ch 1, work hdc4tog into the next st] 5 times, ch 1 **[dc2tog over the next 2 sts] 6 times; repeat from * ending the last repeat at ** when 6 sts remain, [dc2tog over the next 2 sts] 3 times, sk tch, turn.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows.
