Yarn

DK/8ply/Cat. 3 weight yarn or Worsted/10ply/Cat. 4 weight yarn (for chunkier bookmark). Acrylic, bamboo, cotton or blends of these, ~15g/0.5Oz in total per bookmark.

Hook

Use yarn label instructions as a guide for selecting hook size. Swatch to determine the optimal hook size for your tension.

Bookmark Size

Varies with brand and weight of chosen yarn, number of flowers, and how flowers are joined. ~23.5cm/9.25in length in DK yarn, five flowers joined at two petals per flower.

Pattern Synopsis

Flowers are made in the round in two rounds per flower. Once sufficient flowers are made for the preferred length of bookmark, the flowers are stitched together on WS.

Special Stitch Instructions

HTR

Yo twice, insert hook through st, yo, pull through a loop (four loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (three loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through all three loops on hook.

Invis Join

Note: This join is an alternative to Sl St join. Remove loop from hook, insert hook from back to front (through BL and then FL) of st that join is to be made in, return yarn loop to hook, pull yarn through st (from front to back), gently pull yarn end to tighten join.

TR

Yo twice, insert hook through st, yo, pull through a loop (four loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (three loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through first two loops on hook (two loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through both loops on hook.

Pattern Instructions

Note

Beg Ch 1 and fin Sl St/Invis Join do not count as a st. Rep st sequence in { } the number of times specified by the pattern instructions. A st count follows each rnd instructions in ( ).

A single colour can be used per flower, or a separate colour can be used for each round of a flower. If using two colours per flower fasten off first colour after Rnd 1 and join second colour in any Rnd 1 st prior to commencing Rnd 2 instructions.

Beg Circle

Leaving a beg yarn tail of sufficient length to sew in, make a circle with either MC, or Ch 4 and Sl St into first ch.

Rnd 1

Note: For neater flower centre Invis Join can be substituted for Sl St. Ch 1, 12 HDC in circle, Sl St into first HDC. (12 HDC)

Rnd 2

Note: For longer petals TR can be substituted for HTR. {Ch 4, 2 HTR in same st, Ch 4, Sl St into same st (Petal made), Sl St into next two sts} rep 12 times in total (for six Petals) fin in same st that rnd commenced. Fasten off yarn. (6 Petals (each with 2 Ch 4, 2 HTR) separated by 6 Sl St)

Sewing Flowers Together

Ensure all flowers are WS facing and aligned according to Appendix C Option A or B. Sew flower petals together through 3L of each adjoined petal using either the yarn tails from the flowers, or separate thread. Ensure all additional sts to secure and stiffen petal joins are made on WS surface only and not visible on RS.

Finishing

Sew in all remaining ends securely on WS.
