Notes

  • This pattern will also work well with size '10' thread and a size '0' hook.
  • Finished size with size '30' thread is nice for a coaster, with size '10' thread pattern yields a roughly 5 1/2" doily.

Special Instructions

To make shell: 3 double crochet (dc), chain (ch) 1, 3 dc in the next or specified space or stitch.

Pattern Instructions

Ch 10, join with slip stitch (sl st) to form a ring.

Round 1

Ch 3, 19 dc in ring, join with sl st to 3rd beginning chain; 20 dc (beginning chain counts as 1st dc now and throughout).

Round 2

Ch 4, (dc, ch 1) in each dc around, join with sl st to 3rd beginning ch; 20 ch-spaces.

Round 3

Sl st in ch-space, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-space, 3 dc in each ch-space around; 60 dc.

Round 4

Ch 5, (skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2) around, join with sl st to 3rd beg; 30 ch-spaces.

Round 5

Sl st in next ch-space, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-space, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-space, ch 1) around, join with sl st to 3rd beginning chain; 30 ch-spaces.

Round 6

Sl st in next 2 dc, sl st in ch-space, (ch 3, 2 dc) in same ch-space, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1) in each ch-space around, join with sl st to 3rd beginning chain.

Round 7

Sl st in next 2 dc, ch 1, (single crochet (sc) in ch-space, work shell in next ch-space) around, sl st in 1st sc, finish off.

Optional Contrasting Border

Join with sc to any dc of Round 7, * sc in each dc to ch-space, (sc, ch 7, sc) in ch-space, repeat from * around, sc in any remaining dc, join with sl st to 1st sc.

Finishing Up

Finish off and weave in ends.
