Creating the Shawl

First Mitered Square

Using A, cast on 60 sts.

Row 1 (Wrong Side): Knit 30 sts, place marker, knit 30 sts.
Row 2 (Right Side): Attach B, knit 28 sts, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, knit to end of row.
Row 3: Knit across row.
Row 4: Change to A, knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, knit to end of row.
Row 5: Knit across row.
Next Rows: Repeat rows 4 and 5 changing colors from A to B every two rows until 2 stitches remain, ending with color A. Remove marker and k2tog. Do not bind off. Use the last remaining stitch to pick up and knit along the left side of the mitered square.

Mitered Squares 2-6

With the right side facing and using the last stitch from the First Mitered Square on the right needle, pick up and k29 sts evenly along the left edge of the FIRST MITERED SQUARE, then cast on 30 sts – making a total of 60 sts.

Repeat Rows 1-5 of FIRST MITERED SQUARE until there are 2 sts left. K2tog and leave the last st from the Mitered Square on the right needle. Pick up and k29 sts evenly along the left edge of this Mitered Square, then cast on 30 sts, totaling 60 sts.

Repeat this process until there are 6 mitered squares in the strip.

Fasten off the last st of the last Mitered Square.
Make 3 strips of 6 Mitered Squares.

Using a yarn needle and mattress stitch, join 3 strips together lengthwise. See photo for placement.
