You’ll Need:

650 (750)g of grey Corsofino yarn (35% cotton, 35% polyacryl; 114m/50g);

Straight knitting needles 3.5 and 4;

Circular knitting needles 3.5.

Size:

S (M).

Used Patterns

1 x 1 Rib

Chessboard Pattern

The quantity of sts is multiple of 24 + 12 + 2 selvage sts. Work according to the scheme, on which only RS rows are stated, and make WS rows according to the pattern.

Start with 1 selvage st, pattern repeat, finish with sts after pattern repeat and 1 selvage st. Make 1st-4th rows x once, 13th-14th rows x once, 15th-18th x 3 times, and 27th-28th rows x once. Repeat 1st-28th rows.

Stockinette Stitch

In RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls.

Stitches Control:

  • Chessboard pattern: 21 sts x 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm;
  • Rib: 23 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm;
  • Stockinette stitch: 21 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 110 (122) sts with knitting needles 3.5 and work with rib between selvage sts for 2 cm. Then, switch to knitting needles 4 and work 38 cm = 118 rows with chessboard pattern. For size M, start sts from arrow C, pattern repeat, and finish with sts before arrow C and 1 selvage st. Decrease 18 sts in the last WS row of the pattern = 92 (104) sts. Next, create a waist placket with rib. At 5 cm = 16 rows height of the placket, work with stockinette stitch. In 10.5 cm = 32 rows (8 cm = 24 rows) from the waist placket, bind off 4 sts from both sides for armholes and 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 2 x 1 st in every 2nd row = 70 (82) sts. In 28 cm = 84 rows from waist placket, bind off the central 16 (20) sts and finish both separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 8 sts and 1 x 5 sts in every 2nd row from inwards. In 30 cm = 90 rows from the waist placket, bind off the remaining 14 (18) sts of shoulder from each side.

Front

Work in the same manner as the back, but replace the pattern for size S, starting with 1 selvage st and sts before arrow A, pattern repeat, and finish with 1 selvage st. For a deeper neck-hole, bind off the central 8 (12) sts for the neck-hole in 14 cm = 42 rows from the waist placket, followed by 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 4 x 1 st in every 2nd row, and 8 x 1 st in every 4th row.

Sleeves

Cast on 52 (62) sts with knitting needles 3.5 and work with rib between selvage sts for 2 cm. Switch to knitting needles 4 and chessboard pattern, for size S, finish with sts before arrow B and 1 selvage st. In 21 cm = 66 rows from rib, increase 1 st from both sides for sleeve chamfers and 14 x 1 st in every 4th and 6th rows alternately = 82 (92) sts, include the increased sts in the pattern. In 46 cm = 142 rows from rib, bind off 5 sts from both sides for sleeve caps and 1 x 3 sts, 4 x 2 sts, 4 x 1 st, 3 x 2 sts, 2 x 3 sts, and 1 x 4 sts (1 x 3 sts, 11 x 2 sts, 2 x 3 sts, and 1 x 4 sts). In 56 cm = 174 rows from rib, bind off the remaining 10 (12) sts.

Assembly

Make shoulder seams. Cast on 132 (140) sts along the neck-hole and create a placket with rib. At 2 cm height of the placket, bind off the sts according to the pattern. Sew up the sleeves, and make side and sleeve seams.
