The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes, the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Back

With smaller needles and MC, cast on 81 (88-95-102) sts.

1st row: (RS) K4. *P3. K4. Repeat from * to end of row.

2nd row: P4. *K3. P4. Repeat from * to end of row.

These 2 rows form rib pattern.

Work a further 11 rows in rib pattern.

Sizes S and L Only:

Next row: (WS) Rib, increase 1 st at center of row. 82 (96) sts.

All Sizes:

Change to larger needles and proceed in Stripe Pattern as follows:

With A, work 2 rows stocking st.

With MC, work 6 rows stocking st.

These 8 rows form Stripe Pattern.

Work even in pattern until Back from beginning measures 12¼ (12¼-12½-12½) ins [31 (31-32-32) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Armhole Shaping

Keeping continuity of Stripe Pattern, cast off 7 (8-8-9) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. 68 (72-80-84) sts.

Decrease 1 st at each end of needle on next 3 rows, then on every following alternate row 6 (7-7-7) times. 50 (52-60-64) sts.

Continue even in pattern until armhole measures 8 (8¼-8¼-8¾) ins [20 (21-21-22) cm], ending with RS.

Shoulder Shaping

Cast off 4 (5-6-7) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 5 (5-7-8) sts at beginning of the next 2 rows. Leave remaining 32 (32-34-34) sts on stitch holder.

Front

Work from ** to ** as given for Back.

Continue even in pattern until armhole measures 5 (5-5½-6) ins [12.5 (12.5-14-15) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck Shaping

Next row: K14 (15-18-20). Turn. Leave remaining sts on stitch holder.

Decrease 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then every following alternate row 3 times. 9 (10-13-15) sts.

Work even in pattern until work from beginning measures the same length as Back to beginning of shoulder shaping, ending with the same row of Stripe Pattern as Back and the RS facing for next row.

Shoulder Shaping

Cast off 4 (5-6-7) sts at beginning of the next row.

Work 1 row even. Cast off remaining 5 (5-7-8) sts. With RS facing, slip the next 22 (22-24-24) sts onto a stitch holder. Join yarn to remaining sts and knit to end of row.

Decrease 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then every following alternate row 3 times. 9 (10-13-15) sts.

Work even in pattern until work from beginning measures the same length as Back to beginning of shoulder shaping, ending with the same row of Stripe Pattern as Back and the WS facing for the next row.

Shoulder Shaping

Cast off 4 (5-6-7) sts at beginning of next row.

Work 1 row even. Cast off remaining 5 (5-7-8) sts.

Finishing

Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth and leave to dry.

Collar

Sew right shoulder seam.

With RS of work facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 19 sts down Left Front neck edge. K22 (22-24-24) from Front stitch holder, decrease 0 (0-2-2) sts evenly across.

Pick up and knit 19 sts up Right Front neck edge. K32 (32-34-34) from Back stitch holder, decrease 1 (1-3-3) st(s) evenly across. Total: 91 sts.

1st row: (WS) *P3. K4. Repeat from * to end of row.

2nd row: *K3. P4. Repeat from * to end of row.

Repeat these 2 rows of (K3. P4) ribbing for 4 ins [10 cm], ending with RS of Collar (WS of body) facing for next row.

Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:

Next row: *P2. M1P (by picking up horizontal loop lying before next stitch and purling into back of it). P1. K4. Repeat from * to end of row. Total: 104 sts.

Next row: *P4. K4. Repeat from * to end of row.

Repeat last row until Collar from pick-up row measures 10¾ ins [26 cm]. Cast off in ribbing.

Sew left shoulder and Collar seam, reversing the Collar seam for turn-back.

Armbands

With RS of work facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 83 (86-88-92) sts evenly along armhole edge.

Knit 2 rows. Cast off knitways (WS). Sew side and armband seams.
