Knitting a Child's Sweater with Lanagold Yarn

You’ll Need:

400g of Lanagold yarn (50% wool, 50% acryl; 240m/100g);

Knitting needles size 5.

Size: 4-5 years.

Instructions

Front

Cast on 70 sts and work with a seed stitch pattern of 2 x 2, making 6 sts on one side with garter stitch. At a height of 25 cm from the beginning of work, decrease the sts every 2 sts until there are 32 sts left on the knitting needles.

Continue working, alternating between 4 knit sts and 2 purls, making 4 knit sts with 2 x 2 ribbing, crossing it every 4^th row. After knitting 30 cm, decrease 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 1 x 1 st from the outer edge for the arm-holes. At a height of 15 cm from the arm-holes, start forming the neck-hole by binding off 1 x 6 sts, 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 1 x 1 st from the inward side, finishing both sides separately. Make 3 button-holes. Finish your work when the height of the yoke reaches 22 cm.

Back

Cast on 125 sts and work with a seed stitch pattern of 2 x 2. At a height of 25 cm from the beginning of work, decrease the sts every 2 sts until there are 63 sts left on the knitting needles. Continue working by alternating between 4 knit sts and 2 purls, making 4 knit sts with a 2 x 2 cable, crossing it every 4^th row. After knitting 30 cm, decrease 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 1 x 1 st. At a height of 20 cm, bind off the central 13 sts for the neck-hole. Finish your work at a height of 22 cm for the yoke.

Sleeves

Cast on 36 sts and alternate between 4 knit sts and 2 purls, making 4 knit sts with a 2 x 2 cable, crossing it every 4^th row. At a height of 14 cm from the beginning of work, make increases by making 2 sts out of 1 st, until there are 72 sts. Continue working with seed stitch. After knitting 9 cm, decrease 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 1 x 1 st from both sides. After knitting an additional 10 cm, bind off the sts.

Belt on the Back

Cast on 10 sts and create a stripe 12 cm long with garter stitch.

Assembly

Make the side and shoulder seams, and sew up the sleeves. Sew the belt with 2 buttons to the back. For the collar, cast on 55 sts along the neck-hole and create 10 cm of garter stitch.
