Materials Needed

  • 3mm hook
  • Double knit yarn

Abbreviations

  • Sc = single crochet
  • 2sc = 2 single crochet into the same stitch
  • 2tog = sc next 2 stitches together

Most pieces are worked as rectangles. The bumper, wheels, wheel arches, and mirrors are worked in continuous rounds. For these pieces, use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of a row.

Chassis (Bottom of Car)

1) Working in black, chain 47, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (46)

2 – 22) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (46)

Front Window/Roof/Back Window/Back Panel

1) Working in base color, chain 23, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (22) Change to grey.

2 – 9) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (22) Change to base color.

Front Panel

1) Working in base color, chain 12, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (11)

Bonnet

1) Working in base color, chain 17, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (16)

2 – 6) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. Change colour to stripe colour. (16)

7 – 16) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. Change colour back to base colour. (16)

17 – 22) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (16)

Sew the sides and front panel to the chassis. Sew the window/roof/back panel section to the chassis along the bottom of the back panel, then sew this section to the side panels. Sew the front panel to the side panels. Turn the piece inside out; you should have a squarish gap where the bonnet needs to go. Stuff the car then sew on the bonnet.

Front Lights

1) Working in white, chain 2, sc into 2nd ch. (1)

2) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc. (2)

3) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc, 2sc. (3)

4) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next 2 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (4)

5) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next 3 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (5)

6-10) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (5)

11) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc 2tog, sc onto next 3 stitches. (4)

12) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next 2 stitches, sc 2tog. (3)

13) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc 2tog, sc last stitch. (2)

14) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc 2tog.
Sc around the edge of piece. (1)

Sew the light to the car, 3/4 of the way round; lightly stuff the light to make it stand out then finish sewing.

Bumper

To Start the Bumper, You Will Be Making an Oval

1) Working in base colour, ch 5, 2sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc into next 2 chains, 4sc into last chain. Working into the back loops, sc into next 2 loops, 2sc into last loop. (12)

2) Sc into each stitch. (12)

3) 2sc into next st, sc into next 5 stitches, 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 5 stitches. (14)

4 – 28) Sc into each stitch. Lightly stuff bumper. (14)

29) Sc next 5 stitches, 2tog, sc next 5 stitches, 2tog. (12)

30) Sc into each stitch. Sew end of bumper to finish.

Back Light

1) Working in red, chain 2, sc into 2nd ch. (1)

2) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc. (2)

3) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (2)

4) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next stitch, 2sc into last stitch. (3)

5) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc into next stitch, sc into next stitch, 2sc into last stitch. (5)

6-8) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (5)

9) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next 3 stitches, 2tog. (4)

10) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc 2tog, sc into next 2 stitches. (3)

11) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next stitch, 2tog. (2) Slip st around edge.

Sew the light to the car, 3/4 of the way round; lightly stuff the light to make it stand out then finish sewing.

Side of Spoiler

1) Working in base color, chain 9. Sc in each ch starting from the 2nd chain from the hook. (8)

2 - 4) ch1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch (8)

5) (chain 1 (turning chain), slip stitch at next 2 stitches, sc into next 4 stitches. (4)

6) Turn work, chain 1 (turning chain), sc into next 4 stitches. (4)

Fold in half, making the spoiler side longer on one side than the other. Sew the long side of the piece together to make a tube and turn it inside out.

Cut 2 pieces of card slightly smaller than the spoiler sides and insert one into each spoiler side.

Spoiler Top

1) Working in base color, chain 9. Sc in each ch starting from the 2nd chain from the hook. (8)

2 – 25) ch1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch (8)

Folded in half making the spoiler side longer on one side than the other. Sew the long side of the piece together to make a tube and turn inside out.

Cut a strip of card and insert into the spoiler top. Sew the spoiler top along the flat edge of each spoiler side. Sew the completed spoiler to the back of the car, just below the top of the back window.

Number Plate (One in White for the Front, One in Yellow for the Back)

1) Chain 16, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (15)

2 – 4) ch 1 (turning chain), sc into each stitch. (15)

Embroider letters and or numbers onto the number plate.

Wheel Front/Sides

1) Working in black, chain 4, join into a ring. Make 6 sc into the ring. (6)

2) 2sc in each stitch. (12)

3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times. (18)

4) *Sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc in next st* 6 times. (24)

5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times. (30)

6) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times. (36)

7) *Sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times. (42)

Wheel Back

1) Working in black, chain 4, join into a ring. Make 6 sc into the ring. (6)

2) 2sc in each stitch. (12)

3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times. (18)

4) *Sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc in next st* 6 times. (24)

5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times. (30)

Sew wheel back to wheel front/sides, leaving a small gap to stuff. Stuff and sew up gap. Embroider on wheel trim.

Side Windows

1) Working in grey, chain 9, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (8)

2) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc into 1st stitch, sc into next 6 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (10)

3) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc into 1st stitch, sc into next 8 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (12)

4) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc into 1st stitch, sc into next 10 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (14)

5) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc into 1st stitch, sc into next 12 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (16)

6) Chain 1 (turning chain), 2sc into 1st stitch, sc into next 14 stitches, 2sc into last stitch. (18)

8) Sc down the edge, slip stitch across the top, sc up the edge.

Embroider on black window trim.

Mirror

1) Working in base colour, chain 4, join into a ring. Make 6 sc into the ring. (6)

3-6) Sc into each stitch. (12)

7) *Sc, 2tog* 4 times (8)

Embroider on mirror front in white, stuff and sew onto the car.

Wheel Arch

To Start the Wheel Arch, You Will Be Making a Small Oval

1) Working in base colour, chain 3, 2sc in 2nd from hook, 4sc in next stitch, turn work, 2sc in back loop of next stitch. (8)

2) Sc in each stitch. (8)

3) *Sc into next 3 stitches, 2sc.* 2 times. (10)

4) Sc into next 4 stitches, 2sc* 2 times (12)

5-29) Sc in each stitch. Stuff (12)

30) Sc into next 4 stitches, 2tog* 2 times (10)

31) Sc into next 3 stitches, 2tog* 2 times (8)

32) Sc in each stitch. (8)

Stuff and sew end together. Sew above each wheel.

Sills

1) Working in base colour, chain 16, sc into each chain starting with the second chain from the hook. (15)

2-4) Chain 1 (turning chain), sc in each stitch. (15)

Fold in half and sew between the bottom of the wheel arches in between the wheels.
