Instructions

Lower Paw

Row 1 (RS): With size 9 hook and ecru, ch 31, tr in 5th ch from hook (beg 4 sk chs count as first tr), tr in each rem ch across, turn. (28 tr)

Row 2: Beg block (see Special Stitches), block (see Special Stitches), [mesh (see Special Stitches), block] 4 times, remove hook from lp and place safety pin in lp. Set aside.

Lower Tail

Row 1 (RS): With size 9 hook and ecru, ch 109, tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in each of next 2 chs (counts as beg block), 3 blocks, 7 diagonal blocks (see Special Stitches), 9 blocks, 8 diagonal blocks, 7 blocks, turn.

Row 2: Beg block inc (see Special Stitches), 7 blocks, 7 diagonal blocks, 9 blocks, 8 diagonal blocks, 4 blocks, end 2- block inc (see Special Stitches), ch 2, with WS facing, sl st in 4th ch of beg ch-4 of row 2 of lower paw, fasten off.

Body

Row 3 (RS): Hold piece with RS facing, pick up dropped lp at end of row 2 on Lower Paw, beg block, [mesh, block] 4 times, block, continuing across row 2 of Lower Tail, 7 blocks, 6 diagonal blocks, 18 blocks, 6 diagonal blocks, 8 blocks, mesh, end mesh inc (see Special Stitches), turn.

Rows 4-37: Working according to chart. At end of row 37, fasten off.

Row 38: Hold piece with WS facing, sk first 8 diagonal blocks and next ch-2 sp, join ecru with sl st in next st, follow chart across row, turn.

Rows 39-45: Work according to chart.

First Ear

Row 46: Beg diagonal block (see Special Stitches), 2 mesh, 3 diagonal blocks, turn.

Rows 47-49: Work according to chart. At end of row 49, fasten off.

2nd Ear

Row 46: Hold piece with WS facing, sk next 9 diagonal blocks on row 45 of Body, join ecru with sl st in next st, beg diagonal block, 2 diagonal blocks, 3 mesh, 1 diagonal block, turn.

Rows 47-50: Work according to chart. At end of row 50, fasten off.

Border

Hold piece with RS facing, with size 9 hook, join ecru with sl st in first unused lp on foundation ch on Lower Paw, working in rem unused lps across foundation ch and over edge sts of mesh around, sc evenly spaced around, join with sl st in beg sc, fasten off.

Collar

With fine braid and size 7 hook, leaving a length at beg for finishing, ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, *yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 1 lp on hook (base), yo, draw through 2 lps on hook, insert hook in last base made, rep from * until piece measures 10 inches, do not fasten off.

Finished

Using photo as guide, weave Collar through ch-2 sps around neck below chin, unravel any excess Collar. Tack ends of Collar to back of neck. Tack bell to center front of Collar.

Starch lightly and press.
