Materials Required

For this project you will need:

  • Hook:

    5 mm hook or size H hook for the US
  • Yarn:

    1 skein of worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU – 100 grams / 3.5 oz – 210 meters / 230 yards
  • Size of my Square:

    This square is 6 inches

Abbreviations

  • ch = Chain
  • sl st = Slip Stitch
  • st = Stitch
  • sk = Skip
  • sk a st = Skip a stitch
  • beg = beginning
  • DC = Double Crochet
  • FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
  • * = Repeat what is in between the stars for the rest of the row

Instructions

To Start:

Ch 4 and sl st into beg st to form a ring.

Round 1

ch 2 (counts as first DC) DC 15 into ring, sl st in top of beg ch 2 (16 sts)

Round 2

ch 2, DC into same ch stitch. *DC 2 into all sts around* sl st in top of beg ch 2 (32 sts)

Round 3

ch 2 and FPDC onto the post of the CH 2 from round 2, *sk a st, V st (dc 2, ch 1, dc 2) into next stitch, sk a st, FPDC onto post of DC.* repeat for round. Until you reach the end of the row. If you ended up with 2 or 3 stitches at the end of this row it doesn’t matter, you still want to do a V stitch in the last st of your round. Then sl st in the top of the beginning FPDC to end your round.

Round 4

ch 2 and FPDC onto the first FPDC of the round *skip over to your V st and crochet dc 3, ch 1, dc 3. Make note you dc 3 instead of 2 for this round. FPDC onto the next FPDC* repeat for row. Sl st in the beg FPDC to end your round.

Round 5

ch 2 and FPDC onto the post of the CH 2 from previous round. *DC 1 in the next 3 dc’s, ch 1 and skip the ch 1 space and DC 1 in the next 3 sts. FPDC onto the next FPDC, then we’ll do our corner, DC 1 in the next 3 dc’s, then working in the ch 1 space work a DC 3, ch 1, DC 3 all in the same space. Dc 1 in the next 3 Dc’s, FPDC onto the next FPDC* repeat for the round. Then sl st in the beg FPDC. Ch 1 and cut your yarn.
