Materials

  • US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Worsted weight/ size #4 yarn
  • 2 colors
  • A: 5 oz/ 265 yds
  • B: 2 oz/ 106 yds

I used Basic Stitch for this.

See Notes section for colors.

Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle

Wooden dowel larger than 20″ across

Gauge

18 sc x 21 rows = 4” (blocked)

Terms and Stitches Used

  • St: Stitch
  • Ch: Chain
  • RS: Right side
  • Sc: Single crochet

Notes

Begin with a ch 92 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all stitch counts are 91 sc for the graphed portion.

This pattern is worked from the bottom up, row by row with a turn at the beginning of the rows. A border is then added and worked in the round around the graphed portion.

The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.

If you’re going to make the 2 layer fringe, you’re going to either want to make the first row with a foundation single crochet row or work into the back bumps of your foundation chain so that you have 2 loops left over for the fringe.

I worked this design using bobbins/intarsia the whole way. I didn’t carry the yarn across but you can if you’d like; it’s entirely up to you.

Blocking is suggested for this pattern.

In the photos: Color A is gray (Charcoal Heather) and color B is white. Basic Stitch was used for all colors.

Fasten off, weave in all your ends. Block your wall hanging so it measures 20” x 15.4”.

Top/Hanging

With color A (or any color you’d like), sc or sew your wooden dowel or stick to your wall hanging.

For the hanger, ch 100 with color A and tie the ends to the first and last stitches on the final row of the wall hanging.

Fringe

Back Fringe (Color B)

Cut 91 8″ pieces of yarn in color B. Loop them through the back loop (when the right side of Row 1 is facing you) across.

Front Fringe (Color A)

Cut 20 8″ pieces, 20 5″ pieces, 20 4.5″ pieces, 20 3″ pieces, and 11 2″ pieces. Working from the outsides in, attach your yarn from the longest to the shortest in the middle.

Feel free to block your fringe so it lays flat.
