Cosy

Round 1 – FSC: Note: If preferred, the following can be substituted for FSC: Ch a multiple of four st that measures ~23cm/9in relaxed, Sl St in first Ch (circle made), Ch 1, SC in each Ch around, Sl St into first SC. Leaving a yarn tail of sufficient length to sew in, FSC a multiple of four st that measures ~23cm/9in relaxed, ensuring last FSC is joined at the base with the first FSC, Sl St into first FSC. (n FSC (Example DK projects: 32 FSC))
Round 2 – Spike St Foundation Round: DCStndSt in first st, DC in next two st, Ch 1, sk next st, {DC in next three st, Ch 1, sk next st} rep around circumference, Sl St into beg DCStndSt. ((n/4)x3 DC, (n/4) Ch 1 Sp (Example DK projects: 24 DC, 8 Ch 1 Sp))
Round 3 – Granny Spike St Round: Sl St across to first Ch 1 Sp, DCStndSt in first Ch 1 Sp, DC in corresponding skipped FSC st (in front of Ch 1 Sp), DC in first Ch 1 Sp (Granny Spike St made), Ch 1, sk next three st {DC in next Ch 1 Sp, DC in corresponding skipped FSC st (in front of Ch 1 Sp), DC in same Ch 1 Sp (Granny Spike St made), Ch 1, sk next three st} rep around circumference, Sl St into beg DCStndSt. ((n/4) Granny Spike St, (n/4) Ch 1 Sp (Example DK projects: 8 Granny Spike St, 8 Ch 1 Sp))

Round 4 – Granny Spike St Round: Sl St across to first Ch 1 Sp, DCStndSt in first Ch 1 Sp, DC in middle st of three skipped st from two rounds prior (in front of Ch 1 Sp), DC in first Ch 1 Sp (Granny Spike St made), Ch 1, sk next three st, {DC in next Ch 1 Sp, DC in middle st of three skipped st from two rounds prior (in front of Ch 1 Sp), DC in same Ch 1 Sp (Granny Spike St made), Ch 1, sk next three st} rep around circumference, Sl St into beg DCStndSt. ((n/4) Granny Spike St, (n/4) Ch 1 Sp (Example DK projects: 8 Granny Spike St, 8 Ch 1 Sp))

Rounds 5 to 8: Repeat Round 4 four times.

Round 9 – Extended Granny Spike St Round: Sl St across to first Ch 1 Sp, DCStndSt in first Ch 1 Sp, DC in middle st of three skipped st from two rounds prior (in front of Ch 1 Sp), DC in first Ch 1 Sp (Granny Spike St made), Ch 2, sk next three st {DC in next Ch 1 Sp, DC in middle st of three skipped st from two rounds prior (in front of Ch 1 Sp), DC in same Ch 1 Sp (Granny Spike St made), Ch 2, sk next three st} rep around circumference, Sl St into beg DCStndSt. ((n/4) Granny Spike St, (n/4) Ch 2 Sp (Example DK projects: 8 Granny Spike St, 8 Ch 2 Sp))

Final Round: Note: If preferred, DCStndSt and DC can be substituted for first and subsequent HDC st. Sl St in next st, Ch 1, HDC in same st, HDC in next st, HDC in first Ch 2 Sp, HDC in middle st of three skipped st from two rounds prior (in front of Ch 2 Sp), HDC in first Ch 2 Sp (Granny Spike St made), sk next st, {HDC in next two st, HDC in next Ch 2 Sp HDC in middle st of three skipped st from two rounds prior (in front of Ch 2 Sp), HDC in same Ch 2 Sp (Granny Spike St made), sk next st} rep around circumference, Sl St into first HDC. ((n/4) Granny Spike St, (n/2) HDC (Example DK projects: 8 Granny Spike St, 16 HDC))

Option 2: Ch 1, 2 SC in first st, Ch 1, sk next st, {2 SC in next st, Ch 1, sk next st} around top circumference, Sl St into first st. ((n + (n/4))/2 SC, (n + (n/4))/2 Ch 1 Sp (Example DK projects: 20 SC, 20 Ch 1 Sp))

Option 3: Note: If preferred, for a less frilly finish, ‘Sl St in next st twice’ can be substituted for ‘Sl St in next st’ (which will make a Sl St picot in every second st, instead of every st). Ch 3, Sl St in first st (Sl St Picot made), {Sl St in next st, Ch 3, Sl St in same st (Sl St Picot made)} repeat around top circumference, Sl St into first st.(34 Sl St Picot)

Fasten off yarn leaving a sufficient tail length to sew in.

Optionally add same or different border to bottom circumference (after first joining yarn in the bottom of first FSC).

Finishing
Sew in all ends on reverse.
