To make a gauge swatch, Ch 30 and work rows 1-4 of the pattern, continuing to repeat rows 3 & 4 for at least 10 rows.

Your swatch will be bigger than the required gauge. Measure 4×4” within your swatch to check gauge.

Row 1: 1 Sc in second Ch from hook and each Ch across, turn. (70 Sc)

Row 2-5: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), 1 Sc in first 30 Sts, 1 Sl St in next 10 Sts, 1 Sc in last 30 Sts, turn. (60 Sc, 10 Sl St)

Row 6: Ch 1, 1 Sc in each St across. (70 Sc)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.

Join Together

Place both panels of your bag together, RS facing. Using your needle and yarn tail, sew the sides of your bag together (Rows 9-37). Next, sew the bottom of Row 1 of both panels together. View diagram below. Next, we are going to sew the bottom corners together. Open up each corner of the bag and line up the side seam with the bottom seam. Sandwich together and sew across to close.

Bag Trim

With your bag RS out and your yarn double stranded, join yarn with a Sl St to the left of either side seam.

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 Hdc in each St around, join with a Sl St to the first Hdc made. (104 Hdc)

Round 2: Ch 1, Sk first St, 1 Sc in next 5 Sts, *Sk 1, Special St in following, Sk 1, 1 Sc in next 5 Sts* repeat from * to * around, Sk 1, 1 Special St in following, Sl St to first Sc. (65 Sc, 13 Special St)

Round 3: 1 Sl St in next 2 Sts, *Ch 3, 1 Sc in next Ch-2 Space, Ch 3, Sl St into the base of the Sc, Ch 3, Sk 3 Sts, 1 Sl St in next (the center Sc of the group of 5 from the previous row)* repeat from * to * around, your final Sl St of the round is worked into the second Sl St made at the start of the round (just before the first Ch 3), fasten off. Sew Straps

Turn your bag WS out. Place your first strap about 3” in on both sides of the first panel. You will want to overlap your strap edges and bag about 3” from the top of the bag. This helps keep the bag extra sturdy and secure. Make sure both sides of the strap are lined up evenly before you begin sewing. Be sure not to twist straps. You can use stitch markers to hold in place if needed. Sew both ends of the strap down on all 4 sides with the yarn tail and needle, using your stitch of choice. Repeat on other side of bag, ensuring your second strap is even with the first strap.
