Crochet Sunflower Purse

Materials Needed

Optional: Stitch marker for keeping track of rounds.

Step 1: Crochet the Sunflower Base

Start with a Magic Ring:

Work 6 single crochets (SC) into the ring and pull it tight.

Round 2:

Make 6 increases (2 SC in each stitch) to have a total of 12 SC.

Round 3:

Work 1 SC, 1 INC in sequence around the ring to reach 18 SC.

Subsequent Rounds:

Gradually increase with each round:

• Round 4: 2 SC, 1 INC for 24 SC.
• Round 5: 3 SC, 1 INC for 30 SC.

Continue this pattern, increasing the number of SC between each increase, until the base reaches your desired size.

Step 2: Add the Sunflower Petals

Attach Yellow Yarn:

With a slip knot, join yellow yarn to any stitch on the circle.

Work the Petals:

For each petal:

• Chain 2.
• In the next stitch: Make a single crochet (SC), a double crochet (DC), and a triple crochet (TR).
• Chain 2 and slip stitch into the base of the petal to form a tip.
• Reverse the process to taper back: TR, DC, SC, and slip stitch to close the petal.

Repeat this process around the entire base to form the sunflower’s petals.

Repeat the Sunflower Base:

Crochet a second circle identical to the first but without the petals.

Add Depth:

Work 4 rows of 22 SC into the back loop only. This forms a band to connect the two panels and adds depth to the purse.

Step 4: Assemble the Purse

Sew the Panels Together:

Use a needle and yarn to attach the sunflower panel to the back panel along the edges.

Insert a Zipper:

Sew a zipper around the top opening of the purse for closure.

Crochet the Leaf:

Chain 7.

Work back along the chain with a combination of slip stitches, SC, half double crochets (HDC), and double crochets (DC) to shape the leaf. Repeat on the opposite side of the chain to form a symmetrical leaf.

Attach the Leaf:

Secure it to the zipper or side of the purse with a few stitches.

Step 6: Final Touches

Hide Loose Ends:

Use your needle to weave in any loose threads for a clean finish.
