Ingredients

Here’s what you need:

  • Cotton yarn in pink (A)
  • Cream or tan (B)
  • Rainbow (C)
  • Variegated (D)
  • A little bit of red and green yarn

Preparation Steps

Got it? Okay… here we go:

Crocheting Instructions

Rows 1 – 24 are crocheted in Tunisian Stitch.

All even-numbered rows are stitched in ‘their’ color, as they appear. When you get to the color transfer (2 different color loops on the hook) always cast off with the ‘new’ color.

Abbreviations

ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet

Initial Rows

Ch 29

  • Rows 1 – 4: Tunisian Stitch in A
  • Row 5 – 6 st (7 loops) in A, 15 st in B, 7 st in A
  • Row 7: Repeat Row 5
  • Row 9 – 5 st (6 loops) in A, 17 st in B, 6 st in A
  • Row 11: Repeat Row 9
  • Row 13 – 4 st (5 loops) in A, 19 st in B, 5 st in A
  • Row 15: Repeat Row 13
  • Row 17 – 3 st (4 loops) in A, 21 st in B, 4 st in A
  • Row 19: Repeat Row 17
  • Row 21: Stitch 2 bars together (2 loops on hook) in A, 23 st in B, 2 tog, 1 st in B
  • Row 23: 1 st (2 loops) in A, 23 st in B, 2 st in A
  • Fasten off all yarn after Row 24

Creating the Bobble Stitch

Make a standing dc (or ch3) in the space between the first two stitches made in B using the Rainbow Yarn (C).

A Bobble Stitch = 5dctog (5 double-crochet together) – yo, 1dc, yo, insert hook into designated stitch, yo, pull through stitch, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, repeat until you have 6 loops on your hook. Yo, pull yarn through all 6 loops. Chain 1.

*Skip two spaces, make one Bobble Stitch. Repeat from * until you have 8 Bobble Stitches. Fasten off.

With the variegated yarn (D), make a standing dc (or ch3) in the space between the first 2 Bobbles, followed by 2dc in the same space.

*3 dc in next space. Repeat from * until you have 7 clusters. Ch1. Turn.

3 dc in the first space. Repeat = 6 clusters.

Repeat for each row until you have a row with 3 clusters.

Ch 1. Turn. 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc in the first space. 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc in the second space. Fasten off.

Final Touches

With your red yarn, crochet a ’10 stitch Bobble Stitch’ into the space between the two clusters.

Ch 1 in red, continue in green – 12 ch. Slip stitch into the red Ch 1 at the base of the green. Fasten off.

The bottom edge is probably a bit ‘roll-y’. That’s an easy fix (when blocking is not your thing).

Simply crochet 1 row in crab-stitch across the bottom.
