Materials

You can use any yarn fiber and crochet hook size of your choice.

In this example bandana, I use:

  • Cotton DK weight yarn (1 ball, 50 grams/115 yards)
  • Measuring tape
  • Yarn needle

Skills and Abbreviations

(American crochet terms)

You will need to know how to make:

  • Sl st (slip stitch)
  • sc (single crochet)
  • dc (double crochet)
  • hdc (half double crochet)

Measurement of the Example Piece

  • 17 inches wide
  • 7 inches deep

To fit most adult heads, the dimensions are 18×9 inches. Just add more rows to increase the bandana size.

Easy Crochet Bandana Pattern Instructions

Start by making a slip knot. Then make 5 chains and slip stitch to join the end to form a circle.

Row 1: ch2 (counts as the first hdc stitch), 2 hdc into the circle, ch2, 3 hdc into the circle.

Row 2: ch2 (counts as the first hdc stitch), turn. 2 hdc into the first stitch, make 1 hdc in each of the next stitches until you reach the middle ch space, (in the middle ch space make 2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc), then make 1 hdc in each of the next stitches. Now we are at the last stitch of the row (the turning chain), make 3 hdc.

Row 3: ch2 (counts as the first dc stitch), turn. 2 dc into the first stitch, then *ch1, skip 1, 1 dc in the next stitch* repeat * to * until you reach the middle chain space (in the middle point ch space make 1 dc, ch2, 1 dc), then *ch1, skip 1, 1 dc in the next stitch* repeat * to * . Now we move onto the last stitch of the row (the turning chain from the previous row) and make 3 dc.

Row 4: ch2, turn. 2 hdc into the first stitch, *make 1 hdc in the next stitch and 1 hdc in the ch space* repeat * to * until you reach the middle ch space, (in the middle ch space make 2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc), then *make 1 hdc in the next stitch and 1 hdc in the ch space* repeat * to * . Now we move onto the last stitch of the row (the turning chain from the previous row) and make 3 hdc.

Now, repeat rows 1-4 until you reach your desired size.

Add Picot Edge

Join new yarn at one of the end points of the bandana, then chain 3 and slip stitch in the same stitch. Then (slip stitch in the next 2 stitches, and on the next stitch make chain 3, then slip stitch in the same stitch). Repeat in the ( ) until reaching the other end of the bandana.

Add Tie

Join new yarn to each end of the bandana and chain 30-40 chains.

All done!
