I used Durable Comfy (291 yds / 266 m per 100 g) in the following colors:

  • Light Blue – Pastel Blue (281)
  • White – Ivory (326)
  • Yellow – Sunflower (2178)

Feel free to use any yarn with the appropriate hook.

SIZE

5.1″ (13 cm)

GAUGE

With your 4.0 mm crochet hook, make a MC.

Round 1. Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), hdc 11 in MC, sl st in first st to join. (11 sts)

Round 2. Ch 1, hdc inc 11, sl st to join. (22 sts)

Round 3. Ch 1, (hdc inc 1, hdc 1) 11 times, sl st to join. (33 sts)

The three rounds should measure 2″ (5 cm).

HOW TO CROCHET A DIAMOND RING GRANNY SQUARE

GRANNY SQUARE

With your 4.0-mm hook, crochet a simple circle granny square with the following color scheme:

Rounds 1-2. Use white yarn.

Round 3. Use yellow yarn.

Round 4-8. Use white yarn.

DIAMOND

With your 3.5-mm hook and blue, ch 2.

Row 1. Sc 1 in first-made ch. (1 st)

Row 2. Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), turn. Sc inc 1. (2 sts)

Row 3. Ch 1, turn. Sc inc 2. (4 sts)

Row 4. Ch 1, turn. Sc inc 1, sc 2, sc inc 1. (6 sts)

Row 5. Ch 1, turn. Sc inc 1, sc 4, sc inc 1. (8 sts)

Row 6. Ch 1, turn. Sc inc 1, sc 6, sc inc 1. (10 sts)

Row 7. Ch 1, turn. Sc across. (10 sts)

Row 8. Ch 1, turn. Sk 1, sc 7, sc dec 1. (8 sts)

Row 9. Ch 1, turn. Sk 1, sc 5, sc dec 1. (6 sts)

Do not fasten off but move on to the border.

Border

Row 1. Sc all around as follows: sc 1 on the side of row 9, [sc 2] on the sides of row 8, [sc 2] on the side of row 7, sc 1 on the side of each row from row 6 to 2, sc 1 in first-made ch, sc 1 on the side of each row from row 2 to 6, [sc 2] on the side of row 7, [sc 2] on the side of row 8, sc 1 on the side of row 9. Leave the sts from row 9 unworked. (20 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing, and make an invisible join.

FINISHING

With your 4.0-mm hook and yellow, sl st surface crochet following the spaces between rounds 2 and 3, and between rounds 3 and 4 of the granny square.

With a length of light blue, embroider the details of the diamond.

Using the long tail in blue, sew the diamond with its tip (row 1) over round 3 of the granny square.

With a length of blue, embroider a few short lines just above the diamond.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.
