Beginner's Crochet Tunic Pattern

Skill and Abbreviations
You will need to know how to make (American crochet term):
- -sc which means single crochet
- -dc which means double crochet
- -ch which means chain
- -slip knot
- -sk which means skip stitch
This pattern is made for beginners! There is a basic skill level required to make it.
Finished Size Approximately
This tunic is made in size small. The other sizes are easy to adjust by just adding more chains to the foundation chain to make it bigger. See pattern below.
For the model wearing this piece, I am 4’9 feet tall.
Front and Back Panel
Made of one rectangle:
- -15 inches long
- -18 inches wide
Pick up crochet hook size 2.5 mm and start by making a slip knot. Then make 66+2= 68 chains for size small (foundation chain multiple of 6+2).
(Size M: 72+2 chains), (Size L: 84+2 chains), (Size XL: 96+2 chains), and (Size 2XL: 108+2 chains).

Row 6: Make ch 1, 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, *3 ch, skip 5 stitches, work 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches* repeat from * to *. At the end of the row, you will have 6 stitches left: then ch 3, sk 5 and make 1 sc in the last stitch. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat rows 3-6 until you get around 15 inches long for the front and back panel.
Making the Shoulder
After you have two pieces of rectangles, it is time to make a shoulder. Start at one side at a time.
Place stitch markers at 2 places, leaving an opening for the neck for 8 inches.
Then join new yarn at the left side and sc in each stitch for 1 row until you meet the stitch marker point.
Then ch 2 and start to make *1 dc, ch 1, sk 1 and 1 dc in the next stitch* repeat back and forth until you complete 4 rows. Finish off.
Then repeat the same process for the right side.
Assembling the Tunic
After you finished 2 pieces of the back and front panel, it is time to assemble.
Lay the front and back panels on top of each other and sew along as the photo shows, leaving no sew for the armhole, about 4-5 inches.
After we finished assembling the top, we will continue to make the sleeve.
By sc around the armhole for 1 round then ch 2 and make *1 dc, ch 1, sk 1 and 1 dc in the next stitch* repeat from * to * until you get the desired length. For me, I end up with 4 rounds or about 2 inches depth of sleeve.
All done!
