Complete Guide to Knitting a Faux Rib Ornament for Kids Aged 4-8 Years

Size

4-8 years

You'll Need

  • 100g of YarnArt yarn (50% wool, 50% acryl)
  • Knitting needles size 4.5
  • Satin ribbon

Instructions

Knit the faux rib ornament in the following rows:

Row Instructions

  • 1st row: 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.

  • 2nd row: 1 purl stitch. Insert the knitting needle in the middle of the next stitch from the previous row and make 1 knit stitch. Repeat these actions to the end of the row. Alternate these rows.

Making Double Decreases

Make the double decreases of stitches in the following way: transfer 2 stitches on the right-hand needle, make 1 knit stitch, and pull it through the slipped stitch.

Stitches Control

16 stitches x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm of faux rib.

Starting the Ornament

Cast on 73 stitches and knit the faux rib ornament. Start and finish the rib with 1 knit stitch.

Height and Decreases

When the height is 9 cm from the edge, bind off 1 stitch from the beginning of the row, then continue making the faux rib ornament, decreasing 16 stitches in one stripe. You need to make 8 double decreases.

Final Touch

After that, make the faux rib ornament again to a height of 24 cm from the edge and bind off all the stitches.
