Materials Needed

Small amount of red, white, and blue crochet cotton size 10. Southmaid was used in the example.
Size 8 steel crochet hook (Boye) was used.
Empty Transparent tape roll, .5" wide with a 1" hole.

Instructions

RND 1: With white, join thread to the ring and work 46 sc in the ring. Join with slst to the first sc.

RND 2: Ch3. 4 dc in the same st as slst. Sk the next sc. Sc in the next sc. Sk the next sc. *5 dc in the next sc. Sk the next sc. Sc in the next sc. Sk the next sc. Rep from * around. Join with slst to the top of ch3. Fasten off. Weave ends into work.

The row of shells should be in the center of the tape roll on the outside. If not, move them so they are.

Now you will be working on the front and back side of the shells just made. You will be working on the threads that go around the ring. Work each stitch over two threads.

RND 1: Join blue on 2 threads anywhere on the front side. Work 1 sc on 2 threads all the way around. Join with slst to the first sc.

Turn work around and repeat with blue in front of the shells on the back side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on the front side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on the back side.
Turn work around and repeat with blue in front of red on the front side.
Turn work around and repeat with blue in front of red on the back side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on the front side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on the back side.

You really should work the napkin ring in this order: working the front then the back then the front again going back and forth to keep the work balanced.

After you are done crocheting, weave all ends into work.
