Materials Needed

Here are the materials you'll need for this project:

  • Caron Simply Soft - White (or color of your choice)
  • You may want to choose a coordinating color for the body ruffles
  • Size G crochet hook
  • Tiny flowers, beads, & ribbon to decorate your finished Angel
  • Tapestry needle

Size: approx. 4" tall

The Crochet Pattern

Starting the Head

Beginning at the top of the head, ch 3, join with sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: ch1, 10 sc in the ring, join with sl st to beg sc. [10 sc]

Rnd 2: Ch1, sc in same space as joining and in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, 2 sc in the last st, join with sl st to beg sc. [14 sc]

Rnd 3-5: Ch1, sc in same space as joining and in each st around. Join with sl st to beg sc. [14 sc]

Rnd 6-7: Ch1, sc in same st as joining. *Dec over the next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st. Repeat from * around, sc in last st. Join with sl st to beg sc. [10 sc, 7 sc]

Starting the Body

Rnd 8-9: Ch2, hdc in same st as joining, 2 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to the top of beg ch2 [14 hdc, 28 hdc]

Rnd 10: Ch2, hdc in same space as joining, 1 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of beg ch-2 [28 hdc]

Rnd 11: Repeat rnd 10, working in BACK LOOPS ONLY. [28 hdc]

Rnd 12: Working in BACK LOOPS ONLY, ch3, dc-dec over the next two sts, repeat around. Join with sl st to beg dc [14 dc]

Rnd 13: Working in both loops again, ch 3, dc-dec over the next two sts, repeat around. Join with sl st to beg dc. [7 dc] Fasten off, leaving a length of yarn to sew opening closed.

Body Ruffle

(You can do this in a contrasting color if you wish) With the back of Angel and head facing towards you, attach yarn to the first front loops of rnd11, ch1, sc in same space, ch3, *sl st in next st, ch3, repeat from * around, join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off.

Repeat for second ruffle on rnd 12.

Finishing the Body

If the angel will be flat (as for a fridgie or flat ornament) thread yarn left after Rnd 13, onto a tapestry needle and weave opening at the bottom of the angel closed.

If the angel will be round (as for a sachet or round ornament) stuff the body with potpourri or fiberfill. Thread yarn left after Rnd 13 onto a tapestry needle and weave the opening at the bottom of the angel closed.

Creating the Wings

Rnd 1: Wrap yarn around finger twice, slide off, insert hook in center of ring and draw up a loop, ch1. Work 8 sc in the ring, join. Turn.

Rnd 2: Ch4, tr in the same space as ch-4, 2 dc in next st, 2 hdc in next, 2 sc in next, 2 sc in next, 2 hdc in next, 2 dc in next, 2 tr in the last, DO NOT JOIN, turn.

Rnd 3: Ch4, tr in the same space as ch-4, 2 tr in next, 2 dc in next, 2 dc in next, 2 hdc in next, 1 dc & 1 tr in next, 1 tr in next, 1 tr in next, ch4, sl st in same space as last tr, sl st in next st, ch4, tr in same space as ch-4, tr in next, 1 tr & 1 dc in next, 2 hdc in next, 2 dc in next, 2 dc in next, 2 tr in next, 1 tr in last, ch4, sl st in the base of ch-4. Fasten off.

Making the Halo

For Halo, ch10, join with sl st to form a ring, ch1, sc in same space, ch3, *sl st in next space, ch3, repeat from * around. Join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off.

Final Touches

Weave in all loose ends. Glue the center of the wings to the back of the angel with tr-sts of wings towards the top of the head. Glue halo centered to the back of the head. Add beads, ribbon, and roses to decorate however you wish to make her your personalized "special" angel.
