Materials

• Rowan Big Wool, 100% Merino wool, 100g/80m/87yds
• Yarn A: Linen 048 x 1 ball
• Yarn B: Lipstick 063 x 1 ball
• 10mm hook
• Removable stitch marker or small safety pin

Tension

Work 8 sts and 7 rnds over shell st pattern to measure 10 x 10cm/4 x 4in using a 10mm hook, or size required to obtain tension.

Measurements

• Circumference: 59.5cm/23 1/2in.
• Width: 25.5cm/10in.

Pattern Notes

When changing colours, draw the new colour through the last 2 loops on the hook to complete the last stitch. To join yarn with a dc, make a slip knot 12.5cm/5in from the end of the yarn and place it on the hook. Insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook.

Cowl

With yarn A, make 48 chains.

Rnd 1: Double crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Then, being careful not to twist this strip, join the strip with a slip stitch in the first double crochet, forming a ring.

Rnd 2: Chain 1, double crochet in the same double crochet as joining (always mark this stitch to indicate the beginning of the round), double crochet in each remaining stitch around, join round with a slip stitch in the first double crochet, changing to yarn B.

Rnd 3: With yarn B, chain 1, double crochet in the same stitch as joining, double crochet in each double crochet around, join round with a slip stitch in the first double crochet.

Rnd 4: Chain 1, double crochet in the same double crochet as joining, *miss the next 2 double crochets, work 5 treble crochets in the next double crochet, miss 2 double crochets, double crochet in the next double crochet; repeat from * around, ending with miss the next 2 double crochets, work 5 treble crochets in the next double crochet, miss 2 double crochets, join round with a slip stitch in the first double crochet, changing to yarn A.

Rnd 5: With yarn A, chain 1, double crochet in the same double crochet as joining, double crochet in each remaining stitch around, join round with a slip stitch in the first double crochet.
