My Pointed Granny Dishcloth Pattern

Dishcloth measures: 9 inches wide and 12 inches wide across diagonally (4 pointed corners).

Hook: Metal H (5 mm) US sized hook.

Materials

• Sugar & Cream Cotton yarn (used about 2-ozs of cream and 1/2 oz green)
• (This is almost a great pattern to use cotton yarn scraps as shown in the 2nd dishcloth)

Instructions

With center color, Ch 5, Sl St to form ring.

Round 1

Ch 2 (counts as 1 Hdc) in ring work 2 Hdc, Ch 1.
*3 Hdc in ring, Ch 1.* Repeat 3 times. Sl St to top of Ch 2. (4 corners)

Round 2

Sl st over to corner space, Ch 2, 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the same ch 1 corner space.
*Sk next 3 Hdc (shell), 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the next Ch 1 corner space.*
Repeat between *. Sl St to top of the beginning Ch 2. FO.

Round 3

Attach new cotton color in any corner space. Ch 2 (counts as 1 Hdc) 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the corner space.
*Sk 3 Hdc, make 3 Hdc in between shells. In next corner point work 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc all in corner sp.* Repeat between * around the motif, join with a Sl St to top of Ch 2.

Rounds 4 – 8

Continue in established pattern with cotton yarn. Work 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc in each Ch 1 corner point and 3 Hdc between each shell.
(Change colors as desired to use up scraps of cotton.)

Round 9

Continue in established pattern but skip center shell in the middle of each side (work 3 Hdc in 3 spaces between shells, skip one space then 3 Hdc in the 3 remaining spaces of each side.) Work corner points in the pattern established. Repeat for each side. Join with Sl St to top of Ch 2.

Round 10

Continue in established pattern of 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc in each Ch 1 corner point and 3 Hdc between each shell except in the skipped space of the prior round, work Sl St in the skipped space, continue in pattern. End with Sl St to top of Ch 2. FO.

Round 11 (Edging)

Attach contrasting cotton yarn for edging in any Ch 1 point space. Work 3 Sc in each point space and 1 Sc in each stitch around evenly.

Join with a Sl St to beg Sc stitch. FO. Flatten and form the dishcloth by stretching the points out to allow the dishcloth to lay down flat.
