Begin by creating a ring with 4 chain stitches, then slip stitch to join.

Rows to Create the Base

• 1^st row: 8 half double crochets, slip stitch at the end of the row (8 sts);
• 2^nd row: 2 chain stitches increase, 2 half double crochets in every stitch, slip stitch (16 sts);
• 3^rd row: 2 chain stitches increase, * 2 half double crochets in the 1^st stitch, 1 half double crochet in the next stitch*, slip stitch (24 sts);
• 4^th row: 2 chain stitches increase, * 2 half double crochets, 1 half double crochet in the next 2 stitches*, slip stitch (32 sts);
• 5^th row: 2 chain stitches increase, * 2 half double crochets, 1 half double crochet in the next 3 stitches*, slip stitch (40 sts);

First Earflap

• 2^nd row: 2 single crochets for decrease, single crochets in the next 10 stitches, the last 2 stitches as single crochets together, turn (12);
• 3^rd row: 2 single crochets for decrease, single crochets in the next 8 stitches, the last 2 stitches as single crochets together, 1 chain stitch, turn (10);

Ears

Start with 2 chain stitches.

• 1^st row: 5 half double crochets in the 2^nd stitch from the crochet hook (5);
• 2^nd row: 2 half double crochets around (10);
• 3^rd row: 2 half double crochets around (20);
• 4^th row: half double crochet, 2 half double crochets (30);
• 5^th row: half double crochet around (30);
• 6^th row: half double crochet, 2 half double crochets together (20);
• 7^th row: 2 half double crochets together (10);

Cut the yarn and sew the ears to the hat.
