How to Knit a Cozy Hat with Ears

You'll Need:

120g of Nako Arctic yarn (40% wool, 60% acrylic, 100m/100g);

Circle knitting needles 3.5 mm;

Double pointed knitting needles 3.5 mm;

Crochet hook 4.0 mm.

Instructions

Ears

You should make ears separately, then connect them.

Cast on 4 sts.

Knit selvedge stitches according to the ornament, do not slip them.

Make yarn overs in wrong side rows through the bottom lobe of stitches.

• 1st and all odd rows: purl;
• 2nd row: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 2 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch (6);
• 4th row: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 4 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch (8);
• 6th row: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 6 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch (10);
• 8th row: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 8 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch (12);
• 10th row: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 10 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch (14);
• 12th row: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 12 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch (16).

Now, connect the ears. Take the first ear and knit it in the following way: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 15 knit stitches, cast on 18 auxiliary stitches for the back part of the hat, and attach the second ear, 15 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch.

Next row – purl.

Make 2 more rows.

Rib

Start the row with * 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 2 purls, 2 knit stitches; repeat from * to end.

The next row is rib (according to the ornament).

Then, start knitting with rib on circle knitting needles without increases, cast on 30 auxiliary stitches for the front part in the end. You should get 84 stitches. Knit around with 2 x 2 rib for 3 cm.

Pattern repeat is 12 stitches wide and 8 rows in height. Knit, repeating the pattern in width 7 times. The ornament consists of strap and small cable.

Crown

After knitting 3 pattern repeats in height, start decreasing stitches.

• 1st row: * 2 purls, 2 knit stitches, knit 2 together, 6 knit stitches * (77);
• 2nd row: * 2 purls, strap (at first, knit the 2nd stitch, then 1st as knit stitches), 1 purl, 6 knit stitches *;
• 3rd row: transfer the stitches to the double pointed knitting needles, * purl 2 together, 2 knit stitches, 1 purl, 6 knit stitches * (70);
• 4th row: * 1 purl, strap from 2 stitches, 1 purl, 6 knit stitches *;
• 5th row: * 1 purl, 2 knit stitches, 1 purl, 6 knit stitches *;
• 6th row: * 1 purl, knit 2 together, 1 purl, 6 knit stitches * (63);
• 7th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, 6 knit stitches *;
• 8th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, cable with left decline - slip 3 stitches to the auxiliary needle and leave in front of work, 3 knit stitches, knit stitches from the auxiliary needle as knit *;
• 9th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, 6 knit stitches *;
• 10th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, knit 2 together through lower lobe of stitch, 2 knit stitches, knit 2 together through front lobe of stitch *;
• 11th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, 4 knit stitches *;
• 12th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, knit 2 together through lower lobe of stitch, knit 2 together through upper lobe of stitch *;
• 13th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl, knit 2 together *;
• 14th row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch *.

Tighten the stitches and turn the yarn to the wrong side of the hat, fasten the yarn.

Make straps and a pompom.
