Understanding Popcorn Stitch

Popcorn (corn stitch) is a group of 5 double crochets made from one base stitch, connected by drawing the last stitch through the first crochet.

Important Notes

Start a new row with 3 stitches increase.

How to finish each row? Replace 3 chain stitches with 1 chain stitch and 1 half double crochet.

Pattern repeats 4 times, creating a square.

Starting from the 3rd to the 11th row, crochet 2 double crochets under each chain stitch.

Starting from the 6th row, skip 1 double crochet of the previous row after the first popcorn and before the last.

RND 5: * 1 puff stitch, 1 chain stitch, 7 double crochets, popcorn, 7 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 1 puff stitch, 3 chain stitches *;

RND 6: * 1 puff stitch, 1 chain stitch, 7 double crochets, popcorn, 1 double crochet, popcorn, 7 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 1 puff stitch, 3 chain stitches *;

RND 7: * 1 puff stitch, 1 chain stitch, 7 double crochets, (popcorn, 1 double crochet) twice, popcorn, 7 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 1 puff stitch, 3 chain stitches *;

Finishing the Pattern

Finish with 3 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch.
