How to Choose the Right Crochet Hook Size

There are 2 ways:
1. Due to the Yarn Length on 100 g
Hook Diameter
Yarn Length on 100 m
- 0.5-1 mm: 1600-2000 m
- 1-1.5 mm: 600-1500 m
- 2-2.5 mm: 300-500 m
- 3-3.5 mm: 250-350 m
- 3-4 mm: 200 m
- 5-6 mm: 100 m or less
Crochet hooks with bigger diameters are used for very loose crocheting from woolen and half-woolen yarn.
2. Hand Method
If there is no information about the yarn of the skein, you can choose a crochet hook based on yarn width.
Put the yarn into the hook extraction and pull a little bit. If the yarn fully covers the hook, this hook is too thin. The working yarn will flake while crocheting, and your work will be too dense.
If the yarn covers the extraction and there is some blank space, this hook is too big. Your work will be too loose.
When the hook is chosen correctly, the yarn fully covers the extraction, and your work will be stitch to stitch while crocheting.
