  • Dk wool, 100 grams
  • 3.75 mm hook
  • 4.50 mm hook
  • US terms
  • hdc (hdtr/UK)

Tension

Tension: 18sts and 12 rows to 4 inches over pattern

Instructions for Back

Back

Using a 3.75 hook:

  • Chain 44
  • Sc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain to the end (43 sc). Work 4 rows.
  • Change to a 4.50 hook.

Work one row of hdc (wrong side), chain 2, and turn (foundation row). Work hdc in the back loop of each st across, chain 2, and turn (right side).

Work one row of hdc in the front loop of st across (wrong side). Continue working until the piece measures 8 1/2 inches or desired length.

Slip stitch in the first 3 sts, chain 2 in the 4th st (counts as one hdc), and keeping pattern correct, work across row leaving the last 3 sts unworked. Chain 2 and turn.

Keeping pattern correct, continue on these 37 sts until armhole measures 4 inches. Chain 2 and turn.

Work across 9 sts, chain 2, and turn. Work on these 9 sts until the work measures 1 1/2 inches from the start of neckline shaping. Repeat on the other side, leaving 19 sts unworked in the middle. Fasten off.

Instructions for Front

Front

Work as back until armhole shaping.

Slip stitch across the first 3 sts, chain 2 in the 4th st and work across 16 sts, chain 2 and turn.

Decrease 1 st at neck edge, work to end, chain 2 and turn.

Keeping pattern correct and armhole shaping straight, continue decreasing one st every alternate row at neck edge until 9 sts remain and the work measures the same as the back. Fasten off.

Leaving the center 3 sts unworked, complete the other side to match the first.

V Neckline

1st row with the right side facing, beginning at the start of v neck shaping, work 1 row of sc evenly around the entire neckline (working 2 sc together in corners to form shaping at back neck). Chain 1 and turn.

2nd row: Work sc around neckline, working 2 sc together for shaping at back neck corners. Chain 1 and turn.

3rd row: As 2nd, fasten off.

Overlap edges at the center v and sew into place. Work one row of sc around armholes.

Sew back and front together. Then either leave plain or have fun decorating.
