Materials Needed

For this flower coasters project, you will need:

  • YARN: some 4 ply US / 10 ply AU worsted weight yarn
  • HOOK: 3.50 mm hook or size E for US
  • Dimensions: These coasters measure 4 by 4 inches or 11 by 11 cm

Abbreviations

  • ch = Chain
  • sl st = Slip Stitch
  • st = Stitch
  • sk a st = Skip a stitch
  • YO = Yarn Over
  • SC = Single Crochet
  • HDC = Half Double Crochet
  • DC = Double Crochet

Instructions

To Start

With your main color (MC), chain 5 and slip stitch to join to form a ring.

Round 1

Chain 1 and double crochet (DC) 16 into the center of the ring (16).

Round 2

Chain 1 and in the same stitch do 2 double crochets, and do 2 double crochets in all stitches around for a total of 32 stitches. Chain 1 and fasten off yarn, then weave in ends (32).

Round 3

Change to your petal color, chain 6, then DC in 3rd chain from the hook, then HDC in the next chain, single crochet (SC) in the next chain and slip stitch (sl st) into the last chain.

Round 4

Now slip stitch into the next stitch on your flower center and chain 6, repeat this until you have 17 petals; on your 17th petal, slip stitch into the beginning stitch of the first petal.

Round 5

Change back to the same color you used for the center of the flower, slip stitch into the top of any petal, then chain 3, slip stitch into the top of the next petal, and chain 3. Continue around until you have all petals connected, and fasten off yarn.
