Materials Needed

Weight 3 bamboo yarn (approx. 125 grams)
3.5 mm crochet hook
Tape measure
Stitch markers
Scissors
Yarn needle

Measurements

Total Length: Measure from the top of your shoulder down to the desired length of the top.
Shoulder Strap Width: Measure how wide you want the shoulder strap to be (approx. 1.5 – 2 inches).
Bust Circumference: Measure over the widest part of your bust and divide by two (since you will make two panels).
Off-Shoulder Strap Width: Measure from the side of your breast over your arm to the back and divide by two.

Step by step Instructions

Panel 1
Foundation Row: Make a foundation row using half double crochet (hdc) foundation stitches to the first measurement (from the shoulder to the desired length). Alternatively, chain and hdc across.

Row 1: Chain 2, turn. Hdc in each stitch across to desired width (measurement 2, shoulder width). Repeat the process to create rows until you reach the desired width for the shoulder portion.

Decrease Rows:
Chain 2, turn. Hdc two stitches together (hdc2tog), then hdc in each stitch across to the end.
Chain 2, turn. Hdc in each stitch until the last two stitches, hdc2tog.

Repeat until the panel reaches mid-body.
Every Other Row Decreases:

Chain 2, turn. Hdc2tog at the beginning, hdc across.
Next row, hdc across without decreasing.
Continue until the panel reaches the opposite side of your body

Arm Portion:

Continue the previous pattern on the shorter end (no decreases on the longer end) until the arm portion is the desired width.
Regular Rows for Arm Width: When you achieve the desired width, continue with regular hdc rows without decreases until the arm portion fits around the arm.
Complete Panel: Once finished, chain 1, cut the yarn, and pull through to secure.

Panel 2
Repeat the exact same steps above to create the second panel.

Optional Side Portions

Side Portion:

Mark off the armhole opening on one panel.
Start from the bottom and make hdc stitches up to just before the stitch marker.
Hdc2tog at the end of the row, chain 2, turn.

Hdc2tog at the beginning of the row, hdc across.
Continue until the side portion fits under the armpit.

Repeat:
Create the same side portion on the second panel.

Assembling the Top

Align Panels: Place both panels wrong side up and align them.

Seam Armholes:

Insert the hook through the corner stitches of both panels and pull a slip knot through.
Chain 1, single crochet (sc) through both panels to seam up the arm hole.

Repeat for shoulder seams and the top portion.

Seam Sides:
Align and seam the side portions from the bottom to about half an inch to an inch below the armpit or until the desired fit.

Final Touches

Weave in Ends: Using the yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
Optional Edges: Add scallops or an additional row of sc to the neckline or edges for a clean finish.
