Notes

  • This pattern is written in US terminology.
  • The pattern is worked in rounds.
  • Beginning ch1 does not count as 1st st.
  • Ch 3 at the beginning of the round counts as a stitch.
  • This pattern is worked in three parts: the base, the body, and the edge of the basket.

Instructions

Foundation chain: chain 4 and sl st to 1st ch to form a circle or use the magic circle method.

The Base

Round 1: ch3 (counts as 1st dc), dc 9 in the circle, sl st to 1st ch of ch3 to close the round (10 st).

Round 2 (Inc round): ch3 (counts as 1st dc), dc1 in the same st as the ch3, dc 2 in next st, dc 2 in next st and around to end of the round, sl st to 1st ch of ch3 to close the round (20 st).

Round 3 (Inc round): ch3 (counts as 1st dc), dc1 in the same st as the ch3, dc 2 in next st, dc 2 in next st and around to end of the round, sl st to 1st ch of ch3 to close the round (40 st).

You should have a 6” diameter circle. Here we stop increasing and begin working on the body of the basket.

The Body

Round 4: ch1 (does not count as st), Flsc in 1st st from hook (insert hook in front loop only of st from prev round), flsc in every st to end of the round, sl st to ch1 to close the round (40 st).

Round 5: ch1 (does not count as st), Yarn Under single crochet (insert hook, yarn under your hook, pull through and finish your single crochet stitch), repeat in every stitch around to end of round (40 st).

Repeat Round 5 eight more times or as high as you wish your basket to be.

The Edge

Round 15: Ch1, sc1 in 1st st from hook, sc1 in next 2 st, ch3, sc 1 in next 3 st, ch3, sc 1 in next 3 st and so on around to the end of round. Sl st to ch1.

Finishing

Secure the yarn, weave in the ends, and cut the yarn.
