Materials

This pattern uses 8 ply grey and blue wool and a 3.5 mm hook. I used almost an entire ball of Cleckheaton Country wool, which is 95 m to each ball.

The pattern is written in American crochet notation.

The finished kettlebell is about 14 cm tall.

Creating the Rattle

First, eat a kinder surprise. Keep the toy case and put in something rattly, like rice or lentils (I used organic mung beans I nicked from my father).

Body

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 4: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Round 5: sc in the first three stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (30 stitches)

Round 6: sc in the first four stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (36 stitches)

Round 7: sc in the first five stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (42 stitches)

Round 8: sc in the first six stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (backloops only) (48 stitches)

Round 9: sc in the first seven stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (54 stitches)

Round 10: sc in the first eight stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (60 stitches)

Round 11: sc in the first nine stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (66 stitches)

Rounds 12 – 20: sc in each stitch (66 stitches) (9 rounds)

Round 21: sc in the first nine stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (60 stitches)

Round 22: sc in the first eight stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (54 stitches)

Round 23: sc in the first seven stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (48 stitches)

Round 24: sc in the first six stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (42 stitches)

Round 25: sc in the first five stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (36 stitches)

Round 26: sc in the first four stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (30 stitches)

Put the kinder surprise toy case inside the kettlebell, with stuffing packed around it. Fill the kettlebell with stuffing.

Round 27: sc in the first three stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (24 stitches)

Round 28: sc in the first two stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 29: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 30: decrease until the hole closes.

Fasten off, weave in end.

Handle

Chain 9 and slip stitch to the first chain to form a ring.

Sc around until 5 cm long.

(decrease 2 stitches together) x 3, increase x 3 (9 stitches) (this creates a bend)

Sc around for another 10 cm.

(decrease 2 stitches together) x 3, increase x 3 (9 stitches) (make sure the bend is the right direction)

Sc for another 5 cm, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the handle but be careful to not put stuffing in the bends.

Assembly

Sew on the handle and embroider the weight.
