For the scarf, knit with ornament on 17 stitches with 3 stitches of wrong side from both sides of the central 7 stitches. For the hat and mittens, knit only 2 stitches of wrong side from both sides of the central 7 stitches = 15 stitches.
Stitches Control
Garter stitch: 12-13 stitches and 22 circle rows = 10 x 10 cm; braid: 17 stitches = 11 cm width, 15 stitches = 9.5 cm height.
Instructions
Scarf
Cast on 33 stitches for 22 cm width and continue as follows:
- Selvedge stitch made in garter stitch,
- 7 stitches of garter stitch,
- 17 stitches of braid,
- 7 stitches of garter stitch,
- Selvedge stitch made in garter stitch.
In 160 cm, bind off the stitches. Make 10 pom-poms with a 4-5 cm diameter and one long strap. Cut the strap into 10 parts from 5 to 12 cm each. Sew 1 pom-pom to the end of each strap, attaching 5 straps of different lengths to the narrow part of the scarf.
Hat
Head circumference: 58 cm.
Cast on 45 stitches with auxiliary yarn of contrasting color and make 1 wrong side row with purls. Create 5 rows with stockinette stitch using Boston yarn.
In the next row, knit selvedge stitch, then: * slip cross Boston yarn in the 1st row from the set-up edge on the left knitting needle, 1 purl, 1 purl from the left-hand needle, repeat from * and finish with 1 selvedge stitch = 88 stitches.
Extract the contrasting yarn. Turn to double pointed needles and continue knitting with circle rows: 7 stitches of garter stitch and 15 stitches of braid 4 times.
In 12 cm or after 24 circle rows, start from the 25th to the 39th circle rows of the hat decreases scheme = 24 stitches at the end of the scheme. In the next row, knit 2 knit stitches together 12 times, then make 16 cm with stockinette stitch on the remaining 12 stitches. Tighten the stitches with working yarn. Insert the elastic lacing through the set-up edge. Make a short seam for the set-up circle edge and sew the hole closed.
Mittens
Cast on 27 stitches for the right mitten: 6 stitches on the 1st and 2nd knitting needles each, 8 stitches on the 3rd knitting needle, and 7 stitches on the 4th knitting needle. Knit with garter stitch on 12 stitches of the 1st and 2nd knitting needles, 7 knit stitches, 2 purls, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl; then continue making braid on these stitches.
In 9 cm, increase 1 cross knit stitch after the 1st stitch on the 1st knitting needle for the thumb. Then, add 1 stitch before and after the added stitch in every 2nd circle row, for 4 times = 9 stitches for the thumb. Make 1 more circle row, then slip these 9 stitches onto an auxiliary needle. Continue knitting on 27 stitches and cast on 2 new stitches in the 1st circle row instead of thumb stitches = 29 stitches. In 22 cm, bind off all stitches as purls and purl 2 stitches together twice on the 7 stitches of braid.
Cast on 9 stitches from the auxiliary needle and 1 stitch from each of these 2 cast-on stitches for the thumb, placing these 11 stitches on 3 knitting needles. Make 10 circle rows with garter stitch, then bind off the stitches. Make the left mitten in symmetry with the right.
