How to Knit a Cozy Blanket with Bernat Velvet Yarn

You’ll Need:

Bernat® Velvet™ (10.5 oz/300 g; 315 yds/288 m):

• 3 skeins of Contrast A Smokey Green (32025);
• 3 skeins of Contrast B Softened Blue (32008);
• 2 skeins of Bernat® Blanket™ (10.5 oz/300 g; 220 yds/201 m);
• Circle knitting needles 8 mm (91.5 cm long).

Size:

127 x 145 cm, excluding fringe.

Tension:

8 sts and 20 rows = 10 cm with 1 strand each of A and B held together in garter stitch.

Instructions:

Note:

Blanket worked over multiples of 8 sts + 7.

With 1 strand each of A and B held together, cast on 103 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle in rows proceed as follows:

Row Instructions:

1st to 16th rows: With 1 strand each of A and B held together, knit, noting that the 1st row is RS. Break both A and B. Join 1 strand of C.

17th row: (RS). With 1 strand of C, knit.

18th row: K3. *MB. K7. Rep from * to last 4 sts. MB. K3. Break C. Join 1 strand each of A and B.

19th to 34th rows: As 1st to 16th rows. Break A and B. Join 1 strand of C.

35th row: (RS). With 1 strand of C, knit.

36th row: *K7. MB. Rep from * to last 7 sts. K7.

Break C. Join 1 strand each of A and B.

These 36 rows form the pattern.

Continue in pattern until work from the beginning measures approximately 57" [145 cm], ending on a 34th row. With 1 strand each of A and B held together, cast off.

Finishing:

Fringe:

Cut strands of C 12" [30.5 cm] long. Taking 2 strands together, fold in half and knot into fringe through every other stitch across the top and bottom edges of the blanket. Trim fringe evenly.
