STITCH GUIDE
Stockinette Stitch (any multiple of sts)
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 (WS): Purl.
Rep rows 1-2 for patt.
Moss Stitch (multiple of 2 sts)
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1*; repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: Repeat Row 1.
Row 3: *P1, k1*; repeat from * to end of row.
Row 4: Repeat Row 3.Rep rows 1-4 for patt.
Neck Decrease Row (RS): First half, knit to 3 sts before the neck edge, k2tog, k1; second half, k1, ssk, work to the end of the row.
Neck Decrease Row (WS): First half, purl to 3 sts before the neck edge, p2tog, p1; second half, p1, ssp, work to the end of the row.
The pattern is written for the smallest size, with larger sizes in parenthesis. If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.
BACK
With MC cast on 82 (90, 100, 108, 118, 126) sts.
Work in Moss Stitch for 2".
Work even in St st until piece measures 21 ½ (21 ½ , 22 ½,22 ½ , 23 ½ , 23 ½ )” from cast on edge, ending with a WS row.
Next Row (RS): K27 (31, 36, 40, 45, 49) sts, join a second ball of yarn and bind off center 28 sts, knit to end.
Working both sides separately at the same time, work next WS row in purl, then bind off in knit on next row.
FRONT
Work as for back until piece measures 14 (14, 15, 15, 16, 16)" from cast on edge, ending on a WS row.
Place markers on both sides of the middle 4 sts.
Next Row (RS): Knit across to the first marker, join a second ball of yarn, and bind off the middle 4 sts between markers, then, knit across to the end of the row.
Working both sides separately at the same time, knit even in St st for 5½", ending with a WS row.
Shape the Neck
Continuing to work both sides separately. At the same time, bind off at each neck edge: 4 sts once once, 3 sts once, then 2 sts once.
Work Neck Decreases (in notes above) for the RS and WS rows at each neck edge for the next 3 rows.
You will have 27 (31, 36, 40, 45, 49) sts remaining on each side. Work even until front measures same as back. Then BO and sew shoulder seams.
SLEEVES
Measure down 6 ¾ (6 ¾, 7 ¼, 7 ¾, 8 ½, 9)" from the top of the shoulder seam on both the front and back pieces, place marker on front and back where you have measured down.
With RS facing and MC, pick up and knit 54 (54, 58, 64, 68, 72) sts between markers for sleeve. Work in St st until sleeve measures 9½ (9½, 10½, 10½, 11½, 11½)" ending on a RS row.
Change to CC and work in Moss Stitch for three rows.
Next Row (RS) (Sleeve Dec Row): k2tog/p2tog, work in Moss Stitch until last 2 sts, ssk/ssp.
NOTE: To know whether you should knit or purl the decrease you must look at the 3rd st from the beginning or 3rd stitch from the end...
If the 3rd st from the beginning is knit then p2tog.
If the 3rd st from the beginning is purl then k2tog.
If the 3rd st from the end is purl then ssk.
If the 3rd st from the end is knit then ssp.
This will ensure that the Moss Stitch pattern is continuous even as you decrease the sleeve.
Continue in Moss Stitch and decrease the sleeve every other RS row 12 (12, 11, 11, 10, 10) times. 30 (30, 36, 42, 48, 52) sts.
**For size Extra Small and Small ONLY**
Work even in Moss Stitch for two rows then BO in pattern all sts.
** For size Medium and Large Only**
Work even in Moss Stitch for 3 rows then BO in pattern all sts.
**For Size Extra Large and 2X Large**
Work even in Moss Stitch for 1 row then BO in pattern all sts.
FINISHING
Sew side and sleeve seams.
Neck Trim
With RS facing and a smaller 16” circular needle, begin at left neck edge front. Using CC, pick up and knit 52 sts around neck opening. Do not join in the round. Work in Moss Stitch for 6 rows. Bind off loosely in pattern.
Placket
With RS facing and a smaller 16” circular needle, begin at the top of the placket opening on the left front. Using CC pick up and knit 24 sts along the side of the neckband, continuing down the placket opening. Work in Moss Stitch for 6 rows, bind off loosely in pattern. Repeat process on right front. Overlap the right front placket over the left front placket and sew them together at their lower edges.
Weave in ends. Block to finished measurements
