Complete Guide to Crochet Bag Using Orange and Purple Wool Yarn

You’ll Need:

100g of orange 100% wool yarn (120m/50g);

150g of the same yarn, but in purple color;

Crochet hook 4.5;

Frame fastener for bag;

Chain handle with 2 hanks 100 cm long.

Used Patterns

Main Pattern

Work with straight and reversed rows of single crochets around. Start every row with 2 chain stitches increase instead of the 1st single crochet.

Circle every row with 1 slip stitch in the upper chain stitch increase. Make 1 double crochet in every single crochet of the previous row, and make 3 single crochets in the central corner single crochet of the previous row in the corners of the bottom.

Stripes Order

2 orange rows, 2 purple rows.

Stitches Control

16 stitches x 17 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Note

Work in 2 threads of yarn.

Instructions

For Bottom

Create 37 chain stitches + 2 chain stitches increase with crochet hook 4.5 and purple yarn. Fasten it with both sides: 37 single crochets along one side, make 2 single crochets in the 1st chain stitch, and make 36 single crochets along the second side = 76 single crochets (37 single crochets along each long side and 1 single crochet along both short sides). Then, make 3 single crochets in the 1st and last chain stitches. Make 3 single crochets in the next single crochet of the previous row after 2 chain stitches in the 2nd row, 35 single crochets. Next, make 3 single crochets in the next single crochet, 1 single crochet, and 3 single crochets in the next single crochet, followed by 35 single crochets, and 3 single crochets in the next single crochet, circle the row with 1 slip stitch. After that, make 6 rows of single crochets around, making 3 single crochets in the central of 3 single crochets of the previous row in the corners (which will add 8 single crochets more every row) = 132 single crochets. Cut the yarn and stretch the bottom.

First Extensional Side

Work with single crochets in straight and reversed order according to the stripes order. Make 49 single crochets in the 1st row with orange yarn through back loops of the previous row, leaving corner stitches without fastening. Continue working with the stripes pattern and decrease 1 stitch in the 3rd row from both sides; the first 2 single crochets and the last 2 single crochets should be made together = 47 single crochets. Repeat these decreases 6 times in every 4th row to have 35 single crochets. Then, crochet without decreases. The first extensional side is finished. Make the second side in the same way.

First Short Side

Work with straight and reversed direction using the stripes pattern on 17 stitches. Make the 1st row of single crochets with orange yarn through back loops of the previous row. Decrease 1 stitch in the 3rd row from both sides = 15 single crochets. Repeat these decreases 5 times in every 4th row = 5 single crochets. After that, work without decreases. The first short side is finished after the 27th row. Make the 2nd short side in the same way.

Assembly

Make side seams. Sew the frame fastener to the extensional sides. Fasten the side seams with 1 row of single crochets in 2 threads of yarn (1 thread of both colors). Weave in the ends. Join the chain handle. Decorate the bag with appliqués.
