Adding the Romper Legs

From where you fastened off, move over 4 stitches and slip stitch into the fifth stitch.

1st row: Ch2, Work a Hdc into the next 32 [36, 40] Sts;

2nd row: Ch2, turn. Work a Hdc32 into the next 32 [36, 40] Sts;

Note: For size 18m you will repeat Row 2 once more.

3rd row: Ch2, turn, (Work a FPhdc into the next St, Work a BPhdc into the next stitch) repeat from (to) until the end of the row. Fasten off.

Go back to where you fastened off the body of the romper and move 4 stitches in the other direction. Slip stitch into the fifth stitch. Repeat the romper legs row 1-3.

Assembly

To create a mounting point for our snaps, we are going to Half Double crochet around the inseam. You will need to do this on the front and back inseam. Work 16-20 hdc spaced evenly along the front inseam. Repeat this for the back inseam. Fasten off and weave all your ends in.

Sew four snaps to the row we just created spaced evenly and facing the back of the romper.

Cutting and Weaving in your Rope

To keep your rope from unraveling, place a piece of tape over the section you want to cut. Now cut through the center of the tape and dip the end in Elmer’s glue. Wait for it to dry and remove the tape. I will also brush some Elmer’s glue on the last 1/4 inch of the rope to keep everything together. When everything is dry, use your crochet hook to weave the rope through Romper Body Row 17.

Adding the Straps

Next, let’s make the straps. Make two chains and leave a long tail at the beginning and end to use for sewing to the body of the romper.

3m – Ch50, Fasten off.

9m – Ch60, Fasten off.

18m – Ch65, Fasten off.

Find the center of each strap. You can use a stitch marker to marker. Count 10 chains from the center and mark those chain. Stack the three marker chains on top of each other with the center chain in the middle. Now, use a spare piece of yarn to wrap around the three marker chains (you will have to remove your markers.) Tie off and weave in your ends. This will create a nice secure little bow at the top of each strap. Sew the straps to the body of your Baby Romper.
